Smooth and long,

caramel-colored,

with a cap like a combat helmet

Proud and perky,

mere hours old,

existing simply in the dirt

A passing glance, a double take

Curious disgust

and inner revulsion

What cocky combination

of elements brought you to

My sanctuary?

I plucked the mushroom from the soil

Shaded by my ivy leaves
