I remember my recovery being a very long 2-3months before things started to settle down. I had a very large hematoma, my sac ended up with some seriously colourful bruising and the size of a orange! Two years on now and my sac has shrunk to being not much at all to the point that I probably won’t even worry about having it removed and my cords have reduced dramatically and retracted. The recovery is long so some of us, but be patient as the end result is TOTALLY worth it :)

I suppose I was incredibly lucky as I had no issues whatsoever after my orchi. The site was tender and I could definitely feel the swollen cord stumps, but there was no bruising and the incision was virtually invisible along the rake of the scrotum. I was pain free but slightly uncomfortable after the second day and completely back to normal within a few weeks. I didn't start TRT for six months and only noticed feeling hot at night. My only issue was that I gained about ten pounds within the first months. I guess everyone is different and of course a lot has to do with the skill of the surgeon. Orchiectomy is an incredibly simple procedure but still a surgery that carries risks.

Now as followers of my blog will recall I was not so lucky when the scrotum was removed as the sutures opened leaving me with a "tiny vagina" and taking months to fully heal.

Thanks for the reassurances! It's comforting that others have experienced similar issues, yet ultimately with good results. I agree. chopping the cords and tieing them shut does seem likely to cause some kind of local trauma/swelling. Perhaps people just vary a lot in how much of that happens. I'll just work on my patience, and hope for the best. It's a much longer recovery period than I had thought, but I can wait it out!

Sorry for late reply, Varys. I went in the day after my surgery. I was 'knocked out' and the drain was put in. I think yet another incision through my scrotum caused more scarring and adhesions. The scrotum has many layers and once they have been cut thru they tend to heal oddly. I dont think the doctors take much care if there are not going to be any testicles in there. My left side was totally fused. I found that out when I had prosthetics fitted years later. They would only fit on the right side. The heamatoma will resolve its self. Its a slow process for the body to adsorb it. The best thing I did was remove my scrotum. Though I would definatly not reccommend doing it the way I did. I will have to live with a 'mean' scar as I am not prepared to go through a skin graft. Be patient, it is a waiting game and you will come right, Brycee

Thanks, Brycee. That sounds reasonable. Indeed a waiting game, and as I've said that's not my best skill! If things are really unacceptable after a few months, I'll probably seek a plastic surgeon to do something about it. In the meantime, it's not too uncomfortable so.... at least my balls are truly gone!

Update, after 3 weeks. No stitches have come out yet, incision is still a little uncomfortable because of them. I don't like stitches because they're "pinchy" feeling.

So, some more reading, and I found a few references to dissovable stitches, healing, and adhesions (which I think I have too). Dissolvable stitches are supposed to release themselves as the wound heals, and can take a good deal longer than I thought. I was expecting 2 weeks, but it's now 3+, and could be 4, 6, or even more apparently. Geez, that's a long time to have stitches.

The enlarged cords are not uncomfortable anymore, but if they're getting any smaller it's really slow. Both of them, and the wound, all seem stuck together right at the base of the penis shaft. Like the stitches there actually attached them all there. That's probably some kind of adhesion, but nobody ever suggested any way to prevent that. Anyway, I read that massage, manipulation, with some gentle heat, can release adhesions. But none of that should be done before 12 weeks. You want everything to be really healed before putting stress like that on anything. And, by three months, maybe the swollen cords will be diminishing too.

I get to enjoy some of the empty scrotum sensation, even though the big, fat, hard cord ends still kind of feel like balls in there. I like that a lot! And I'm having occasional hot flashes, though they don't last long. I don't really mind them, as they're familiar to me after 3 years of chemical castration. I'm going to wait a month or so to start any low-level HRT, and will see how much HRT it takes to mellow the hot flashes out.

I like the whole idea of being a eunuch now!

Take the sutures out. You're way past their time.

Yep, pair of cuticle scissors and a decent pair of tweezers will do the trick.

I recently removed all my sutures (two weeks after the operation). It wasn't as painful as I was expecting (although there were a few which had kinda embedded into my skin, which hurt). Afterwards though, it was wayyyy more comfortable to walk about and sit down.

I can recommend having a shower before you remove them, as it softens the sutures and makes them a lot easier to remove. Also consider buying a suture removal kit. I think that helped me a lot.

Congrats. Usually 2 weeks is plenty of time. Glad you are doing well.
