Thank you adding me to the Archive! My wife and I have been discussing castration for several years and have known for some time that I would have a bilateral orchi at some point. We have decided to do a trial of chemical castration first, using depo provera. The meds arrived yesterday, and the first dose will likely be this evening after work. While I am a bit nervous about having adverse reaction to the meds, I am excited and eager to take that first step.

A bit about us: I am in my early 50s and semi-retired. I have low T already, and this coupled with degenerative spinal issues can make it difficult to fully enjoy sex. On top of this, my wife lost interest in sex long ago. So, like others here, the disconnect between constantly thinking about sex and the reality that it is rarely going to happen is frustrating, as is the time lost when I could be focusing on other more important or fulfilling endeavors. Also, besides continual and sometimes debilitating back pain, my happy little spinal issue decided to throw me a couple more curves, just for good measure I guess, so I also deal with incontinence issues. While I won't get into the details, suffice it to say that it will be much easier to deal with my IC situation without testicles in the way.

Sorry for rambling...trying to be concise while covering a lot of ground. Ultimately, we are certain that I will be happier, on many levels, without my balls, and though this is a highly personal decision I would not make simply to please her, she too will also be happier when they are gone.

I think the DP take a while to kick in and a lot of folks don't tend to notice much change in the first month.

There are many posts here on the subject of DP.

Have a chat with your consultant about Nandrolone it may help with the back pain and has an interesting side effect of lowering your libido as well.

@ambiguous, I did some research and all the info I have found says that Nandrolone actually increases libido. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong in my search?

Welcome to the group. You will find that quite a few of us are in your situation. My wife and I did a Depo Provera and then Androcur trial for four years before deciding to make it permanent.

Welcome. I was castrated on 2-15-19 and am very happy with it. I also did the chemical route first using Spironolactone.
