Here's a good reference from folk you can trust:

http://www.transhealth.ucsf.edu/trans?p ... troduction

And after that if you have questions specific to estrogen:

http://www.transhealth.ucsf.edu/trans?p ... ng-therapy

That should answer questions of usual doses and much more?

While certainly helpful, this more addresses transsexual and feminization issues. I am neither. I simply am looking for a minimal dose to maintain mental and bone health, while providing a small energy boost. I don't want feminization. I think I'm going to start with 1mg oral esteadiol every other day and see what that does. My plan is to go a few months without the estradiol, and then start it, so that I get experience both with and without it.

Hello,

I will have been castrated for 10 years on Tuesday, Feb 26. When my doctor approved my castration, he recommended some hormones and was ambivalent if it was testosterone or estrogen. It really didn't make much sense to get castrated to get rid of testosterone just to add it back so estrogen was the only logical option. I've been taking 2 mg daily of oral estradiol valerate. I have lost quite a bit of body hair and have developed modest breasts which still are in the range of man-boobs. Over the long term, you will still probably have issues with bone density. I have attempted to minimize that by taking 1200 mg daily of calcium with vitamin D, supplemental Iron and a women's multi-vitamin. My doctor schedules me for bone density X-rays every other year and I am still just outside the osteopina range. If you have any specific questions, I'd be willing to share more.

The dose of "E" is going to vary by person and vary by lifestyle. .625mg or half a 1 mg tablet daily will not feminize your body. That dose will bring about the hormonal balance you say you're wanting to achieve. But the better choice will be to consult an endocrinologist and follow that advice. I began with that dose and enjoyed the return of the stamina and energy levels of pre castration. My mistake was not seeking proper medical advice. I increased the dose to truly abuse the benefits and crossed over to physical body changes which is what you say you wish to avoid. It was over doing the hormone that demonized my body. No complaints now but better monitoring would have been beneficial for me. Again, just seek medical advice rather than experiment with your body. We all have different needs and end goals.

I was castrated 3 1/2 years ago, and have been on estrogen ever since. I began with a low dose at 1mg, but over time the minor changes felt so good that I wanted more, so my dosage went up. I have moderate breasts, but I'm a big (overweight) person, so they really don't show up much. Most body hair is gone, and I've come to wish it was *all* a thing of the past. Some fat redistribution, etc., but all the changes have been positive--even the ones that I initially didn't think I would want. Mental effects have been terrific, though I can weep quicker than I like at times! Do know that after your castration, you will go through a period of becoming tired quickly, but it will pass. You will naturally lose some muscle size/strength, but if you're doing a continually physical job like yours, this should be minimized.

I have asked my doctor to change my DHEA and Testosterone for DHEA, Low Estrogen, Raloxifene, and Micronized Progesterone.

We’ll see what he comes up with. He would not give me an answer till he consults his endocrinologist. Thinking he is going to refer me to shrink.

Don’t know why it so hard. I think doctors just copy and paste without thinking about it. Cookie Cutter HRT

He said no that he would not perscibe female hormone to men. Then said he was there to help if I had any other ideas. :-P. Thought that’s why I pay him to come up with solutions.

kitchkinet18, after I was castrated I took estradiol in the form of Estrofem. Started out at 2 mg a day then dropped down to 1 mg a day and then finally went down to 1 mg every 4 days. The reason for decreasing the dosage was that I had vision problems. It is hard to describe. I guess it is similar to an LSD trip. Everything was whitish and flashing. It started in the middle of my vision and then gradually moved off to the sides of my peripheral vision. Weird huh? It occurred in occasional episodes and lasted about a half an hour. But now that I'm taking 1 mg every 4 days it is perfect. No vision trouble and no hot flashes. Also it should be preventing osteoporosis although I have yet to have a bone density exam. I probably should have one done in the near future. Hope that helps you out. BTW I am curious as to whether anyone else taking estrogen has had the same experience with the vision issue.

Are you seeing any feminization at the 1mg/4 days dose?
