In my experience it often is not you who is inadequate but that the other person throwing shit at you, because of their own problems and hang ups.

Hey there my friends, Just a little 'all about me' from the southern hemisphere, for what its worth? I have owned and run a small auto repair shop since I was 21, 1983? My bosses have been me, my clients, my work ethic, my functionality, my personality, my hard won knowledge and my ability to apply it. Some think that it must be a sweet number to be self employed for 35 yrs. No one to be answerable to, not! I get no sick pay, no holidays, no breaks with insurance, rates bills, unpaid bills, grumpy clients shit cars, changes in technology, compliance, building and equipment maintenance, losing good staff, employing crap staff, being the 'go to guy' in the village. Even if you are unwell, and I have been, absolutely no empathy. But I have carved my way, pushed the shit out of my self. Sick as a dog, gone to work. Others look at me as a super human. The good thing has been that I have helped generations of people to grow up. My 'boys', known them since they were toddlers. Local kids, are back with their families, raising them here. My kids, happy ,healthy, working. The grumpy old man, to be fair, I'l always give you a break tho dont suffer fools. Mates my age went off shore, earnt big coin, asset rich. Didnt see their kids grow up. I'm life rich, asset poor. My only wish is that I could pass this amazing site on to someone that could experience what I have. But now its a different era, Sorry about the rant, Brycee

Brycee. I recently read a good article about two kinds of people: people from somewhere and people from anywhere. You are the first type and I am the second, but I had a glimpse of the first when I lived in Winnemucca, NV and really got involved in the town for a couple of years until economic reality led me elsewhere which turned into all over the place. I really enjoyed that town where going to the grocery store was a social event. On the interstate and having gambling, it had its share of transient and untrustworthy people, but also had rock solid people whom I appreciated just for that. I don't view one path as better than the other, it is just that we all have different life journeys. I feel I ended up with a life that is exactly right for me and I suspect you feel the same about yours. Good for us! And sorry about the rant.

Still no update. I don't think I'm valued at work. Which is fine I guess. I have no value anywhere else either.

Update: boss is finally working on my promotion. It will come with a very, very, very small raise, no discussion on the amount.
