Got a question, if anyone has any experience with Spironolactone and an Orchiectomy. I know that I'll need to taper off the Spiro, you can't just cold turkey that stuff. I’m taking 100mg 2 X day. I'm wondering if I should taper down to nothing just before my surgery or wait till after?
And no, I can't ask my prescribing doctor because he is incommunicado. He badly injured his foot/ankle a while ago and had to have surgery. His nurse says that he'll be back in March some time. And no, they will not contact him for me to ask. Kind of a bum deal that I really don't understand.
He may be incommunicado, but he certainly didn't leave his patients without care. Ask his nurse who is caring for his patients in his absence and request they answer your question. If they are not comfortable, have them forward it to someone they feel can answer it.

Yes you are correct. I will contact her again and say that I need the information. She's got to be able to get it somehow.

I meant get the other doctor who is covering your primary doctors' case load to answer. The nurse can't answer anything, they're not licensed to answer those questions unless given to them by the doctor.

No I understood what you meant. It's just that I have to go through the nurse. There is no other doctor to cover for him. They just started to see transgender patients so, there is no one else to cover for him. She did say that she'll try talking to an endocrinologist doctor to get me an answer.
By posting my question here, was hopefully trying to find someone who's been down this road and could share his experience.
"We got an an answer back from endocrinology. We're told you can stop the Spironolactone the day before the surgery. You don't need to taper it.
Connie, RN"
I've read on a transgender hormone forum that it is not good to quit Spiro cold turkey, yet that is what she is telling me to do. I'm thinking that since the surgery is 3 weeks from today, that I'll go to 75mg x 2 day for a week. Then go down to 50mg x 2 a day for the next week. Then down to 25mg X 2 a day the next.
Does this sound OK? Anyone else been through this?
This morning over breakfast my wife asked me if I was apprehensive and/or nervous. I told her no. A month or more ago I was; as I was full of doubt and worry. Is this something I should be doing? What about as I get older? What will the future bring. But now I can say that I've worked it all out in my head and am looking forward to it.
Reasons?
1. I like what the Spiro and E have done for me mentally.
2. I don't have that crazy male libido screaming at me anymore. What a relief.
3. I'll be off of Spiro, which by some accounts is not good for you in the long run.
4. I'll be rid of those hangy things that are constantly in the way and in need of adjusting. I aim to have a scrotectomy some time in the next year.
Well, it is done. Friday Feb 15th, into the surgical suite at 4PM and being wheeled out to my vehicle at 6 pm. A little sore but not bad. I took one of the narco pain pills before bed just incase. But didn't feel like I really needed it. Haven't taken any since, just a few tylenols. The doctor put in a drain to keep from there being a hematoma. So I have gauze in my shorts all the time to soak it up as it drains. Seems to be a little less each time I visit the bathroom. Everything is going very well so far. I have tomorrow off work also, then back to work on Tuesday. I don't see any reason not to at this point. My job isn't strenuous at all being a QA inspector running a CMM for a machine shop.
Ha! Seems I'm the first to congratulate! Welcome to the club.
Take things easy to start. There's some swelling to be expected, but packs of frozen peas worked well, I recall. (-As did the non-prescribed single malt.)
