Recovery time for orchiectomy and scrotectomy

From what my doctor has told me and from some of what I have read having a castration is a very straightforward operation than can be done with a local anesthetic in about 30 mins. Then recovery time for a healthy individual should be 1 - 2 weeks. In the event that I have my testicles taken off I'd prefer to have a scrotal removal at the same time. Has anyone had this procedure or know how long to allow afterwards for R&R. Thanks.

You can read many past posts from men that were written as they got their testicles and/or scrotums removed. You can also read past blogs in the choice blue bar above for past posts by men as they had surgery and healed up after.

Many drs only want to do scrotum after castration in a separate surgery only on the scrotum. Some drs will do both. You d need to shop around calling to see which drs do which. Be sure to explain it would be a medically necessary bilateral orchidectomy being done. Good luck checking out different drs and what they can do for you !

Hi Aron, There are two types of surgical orchidectomy, (doctors dont like the word castration) Simple and radical. Simple, through the scrotum, but it leaves alot of the pipes and wires behind. Radical or inguinal, through your abdomen. Due to my chronic pain condition, my orchidectomy was radical. Its done under general anesthetic, the recovery time is longer because they go through the muscle in the lower abdomen. I had alot of interventions through my scrotum and ended up with adhesions. The urologists refused to remove my scrotum. Perhaps its not a procedure they are familiar with? From what I have learnt here is it is probably better to get a cosmetic or gender reassignment surgeon to get the best result. As with endocrinologists for hormone replacement, not urologists. They all have their specialty, you deserve the best and the choice. B
