Prison book idea ... (long)

Post by Unregistered (imported) »

I read once in a book that during the 1920's, '30s, Oregon (?) or Washington state had a law that allowed convicts to be castrated. The book described how the warden kept a display cabinet in his office with specimen jars containing the testicles of convicts who had been cut during his time as warden.

I don't know if this was really true, but it does suggest the following book idea: a book by an investigative reporter with individual chapters presented as first hand accounts of convicts who were about to be, or who had been castrated; and a twist: that while the law had been originally written to apply to "Mentally Disordered Sex Offenders", it had been stretched to apply to convicts who had been judged to be "Over Sexed", and also convicts who had been found to be "Un-co-operative or Trouble Prone" with "Aggressive Tendencies", by the prison's Disciplinary Board.

As a suggested outline, the various chapters might include the following accounts: convicts describing how they had been ordered "treated" for having larger than normal size testicles; having fought with other inmates; having back talked to a guard. "Treatment" in these cases meaning that a convict would be elastrated several times a week by a vet from the Prison Farm; and the convict would be kept in his cell, chained and banded, for progressively longer periods of time in the expectation that such treatments would cause the testicles to shrink, thus reducing the convict's aggressive tendencies.

Also, chapters by convicts found to have failed treatment, and who were awaiting castration, their thoughts and fears, about being ordered cut, and what the aftermath might be. And finally, chapters by convicts who had been castrated: having to "walk" their "last mile" as a man before they were cut; their cries as they were dragged to the cutter, kicking and screaming; their humiliation at being taken to the warden's office (presumably a "Cool Hand Luke" type) and seeing their testicles in his display cabinet; becomming bitches for any convict or guard who wanted to use them ...

Such a book could be released in serial form; of course, it would allow plenty of opportunity for studying the psychology of what it is to be a man, and not be; also control, humiliation, domination. With lots of prison style bondage, chains, shackles, solitary cells, etc., it could be an "interesting" read. Comments?

Strangely enough I have heard the same story somewhere in the past. My memory is failing but I do believe it wa Utah.

As to castrating rapist, etc, what has been found is you still have rapist, now with out balls. Since these actitivites are less about sex, than they are power, remove the gonads really doesn't change them much.

As to institutional castration, with all of it, this practice is still going on as we speak, primarily under auspices of out mental health establishment. Mental health patients are regularly castrated to calm them down. It just isn't published all that much.
