Ancient Japanese penectomy?

i didn't know if anyone would know about this, so i wanted to ask it here.

i know of an old story of a Japanese warlord who went out on a battle campaign. The story goes that this guy went out, leaving his wife in the capable hands of his first liutennant or other military man. When the Warlord got home, he accused the man of sleeping with his wife. The man proved his innocence by going into the Warlord's saddle bags or similar and pulled out his own penis.

the man cut it off prior to his Warlord's leaving, to prove his loyalty. As i remember it, the Warlord promoted the man for his dedication.

does anyone know the details of this story?

I've read it before but I don't remember names. As I recall the warlord was the Emperor, who was known for accusing those he left in charge of sneaking into his harem while he was gone. He had to leave for a few months and the general he appointed knew damn well what would happen when he got back, so the night before the Emperor left he had himself emasculated and hid his penis in the Emperor's saddlehorn, etc. The Emperor was so impressed by this display of loyalty he promoted the guy to head eunuch of his household.

I know it's considered a true story; I read it in some book of random weird but true things.

It’s a CHINESE story. The Japanese were about the only people in East Asia who never used eunuchs. They didn’t even believe in castrating cattle or horses. Only around the beginning of the 20th century (under the strong influence of western agricultural experts) did they begin doing so.

I know that the incident has been written up by historians as true. It will take me a couple of days to track it down, but I’ll post the story when I find it.
