A toddler boy has tripped himself on an escalator and had his genitals trapped between gaps at a shopping mall in central China.

The one-year-old, who was wearing a pair of open-crotch pants,suffered horrifying injuries as his penis got firmly stuck in the comb plate.

He was sent to hospital with bleeding in his private part. Doctors treated the boy and said the penile injury would not affect the boy's fertility in the future.

The little boy, known by his nickname Kunkun, was out at a shopping mall in Hong'an, Wuhan of Hubei Province, with his grandfather after dinner on May 24, stated Zaker News.

The pair was at a playground on the first floor until Kunkun suddenly ran towards the moving stairs and tripped himself near the entrance, the grandfather was quoted as saying.

Kunkun got his penis stuck between gaps in the comb plate as his open-crotch pants left his genitals exposed.

Onlookers and his grandfather ran up to him and pressed on emergency button to stop the escalator.

Firefighters and paramedics were alerted to the scene to free the toddler and send him to Wuhan Children's Hospital.

Dr Wang Jun of the department of urology inspected Kunkun's injury and said that the boy's penis was exposed due to the tear of the foreskin.

A team of medical staff performed a reconstructive operation on the boy and removed all damaged tissues during early hours of May 25.

Dr Wang said the boy was luckily sent into the hospital for treatment in time and believed that the incident would not affect the boy's fertility, stated the report.

Open-crotch pants are commonly seen on babies and toddlers in China as parents see it as alternatives to diapers.

However, Dr Wang said the pants had no protection to the children's private parts and the crotch-less design left the children's private parts exposed to infection easily.

If you watch the online videos of routine newborn circumcisions, this boy had it less horrific than tiny newborns get treated in hospitals every day and for no medically sound reason.
