That s a great idea for the story authors even to know how big the total readers of all stories is per year or month or whatever is most doable for the EA tech people to try without a ton of work being forced on them to do it.

Sweet words for any writer. 🙏 I've never been much of a Harry Potter fan but I've always LOVED Game of Thrones. . Someday I'd like to write some fan fiction centered on Bran and Rickon Stark and maybe Jojen Reed as well. :)

I think a lot of story readers aren t sure what to say in comments beyond saying great story, I liked it.

What kind of comments are useful and appreciated by the authors ?

Anything nice. A comment doesn't have to be a book review. Just a few kind words go a long way.

Maby some authors' do not keep there part of the deal. as u put it.

But for me.

I can say.

It is real demoralizing.

to get so good Star feedback.

as i have been lucky to have.

And still have like 3-4 feedback in my hole time here.

from the people that is reading them.

In a way, it just tell me cool/hot.

But not really what they like.

or if its just the people that like it that rate.

Its like a 2 sided sword.

we all need new things.

when i read.

I whant good stories, nice caracters and hot endings.

When i write! i whant to know if i hit the mark.

If it made a contribution. If it tuched/moved anyone.

Then stars/comments/personal mail on ea. work to.

So that's the two sides as i see it.

There used to be a "page hits" on a prior version of the archive and yes, page hits were far in excess of star reviews and comments we get now although there was no wall back then which means a lot of people have probably stopped reading the stories. However, I don't think its too important and really, lots of 'hits' were just bots. The number of star reviews is probably a good proxy for hits, you probably get about one review for every so many readers and your fans will probably always give it a rating. (example: my story, Club CBT, had over 10K page hits on the old site. Upon resubmission, it has about 25 ratings, that would be about one rating for every 400 views. Assuming one 1/4 of the people from the prior version got accounts and kept reading the archive, its about one rating for every 100 views). Remember that most people probably don't read the whole story and just skip ahead to the parts they want; just like most people only read the first paragraph in a news article I bet most people only read the 'cut' paragraph in the stories. That's why shorter stories always seem so popular, most people only read at a 6th grade level and therefore can't get too far.

Another thing I noticed is that with series, each installment seems to be less popular than the one before it. People get bored easily. So you end up only writing for the die hard fans when you start putting a suffix on the name.
