Any pilots here?

Post by MikeGrant (imported) »

So i have been getting further along the road to castration, and slowly checking the realities of its effect on everyday life. I spoke to an AME today, and he said it would be a major issue keeping my FAA class 1 medical! I said it wasnt for srs just for prostate issues. One needs a lot of letters and physic tests if you are going along the srs road to get your class 1 back. Just wondered if anyone has any first hand experience.

I am not a pilot but have a CDL license and after a couple of years of no T I had a harder time passing my DOT physical on several fronts including vision change and heart and blood pressure. Fatigue and brain clarity were issues I developed so as a pilot you could have major problems I would think. I had to go on T though I would of preferred not because others lives could depend on it as I drive truck and operate heavy equipment so I knew I had to and went on T before I risked others. I know you may have to look hard at this before proceeding. Very best of luck!

I thought the FAA had stopped all that additional nonsense in regard to transgender pilots? A trans friend who is a commercial captain said that had gone away a couple of years ago?

I'm not a career pilot, but I do have my pilots license with IFR certification. Though my modifications only consist of a glans splitting and a urethral relocation, none of my flight physical doctors even know I have it. I will need to get a class 1 medical in the near future so I can resume with my commercial pilot endorsement, but I don't expect to have too many complications with it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I was told the effects of castration would cause a suspension or even loss, because of the resulting tiredness and potential for eye problems. It would take several months of demonstrating no issues before it being reinstated. I did know a MTF North Sea helicopter pilot in the UK, but dont know how far her surgery had gone, and I have met a couple of MTF United pilots here in the USA, so I am sure its possible, just wondering how complicated.
