So I've Noticed my Balls are Atrophied

what's next can I stop taking Lupron and still have the effects of being castrated? I've been on it for 2 years now. still not sure what's involved in testicular atrophy.

Mine shrank a lot during 3years of Lupron. Soft, mushy, and about the size of a 10 year old's. I could squeeze them with no discomfort, just little squishy blobs.

After Lupron, in about 4 months they started back up making T. They firmed up a bit, but regained very little of their size. Still quite small, and a year later it seems they never will get any bigger. Oddly, my T level actually is higher than baseline!

Recovery time is all over the place, though most seem to recover in 6-12 months, so don't count on staying castrate if you stop Lupron.

I just looked up the cost of this drug and it is quite expensive.

How long did you wait between injections?

If you're asking me, I was on Lupron due to high risk prostate cancer, and Casodex (daily pill) too. For the first two years I got one shot every 6 months, which insurance covered at about $3500/shot. The third year, it was every 4 months (about the same cost per shot). Crazy expensive, but with prostate cancer very low testosterone was a medical necessity. It got my testosterone below 10, the lower limit of the measurements.

It comes in many depot intervals. I'm not sure if there's anything longer than 6 months available. But yeah, for an elective option it seems terribly expensive. However, if someone wanted to really experience the eunuch physical side effects before taking an irrevocable surgical step, a year or so on it would do the trick.

The balls did most of their shrinking in the first 3-4 months. My left one even now is about an inch long and 1/2 inch diameter, the right is about 1-1/2 inches long and also about the same diameter. While they've never been impressive, they're a bit ridiculous now, really, maybe 1/2 their original size (smaller diameter most notably). But for some reason they can still pump out some testosterone.

If you want to get your testicles back up to size after you stop Lupron, ask your doctor to give you HCG injections.

"Acting like LH, HCG jump-starts your testes to produce testosterone and to increase their size. The use of HCG alone as long term testosterone replacement has shown to require frequent injections and potentially increase estradiol and DHT more than TRT."

Some doctors will not recommend any replacement therapy until the PSA level has been well below 4.0 for at least 5 years. This is what happened to a relative. Unfortunately after that time the castrate symptoms will probably be permanent.

I wonder if the Testosterone production some experience after a 2 + year Lu pron treatment might be from the pituitary gland which does produce small amounts of T. It does seem that testicle shrinkage occurs almost 100% of the time and for most it is permanent.
