OUCH: A black man will get his penis tattoed after new penis faces colour discrepancy

A black man will have his penis tattooed after a penis transplant left him with a white penis.

The 40-year-old is only the third person to ever undergo this surgery which he required after he lost his penis during a botched traditional circumcision.

Now, for the first time in 17 years, the man will be able to have sex and urinate while standing up.

The South African medical team who lead the surgery said the one issue was “a colour discrepancy”.

“He is certainly one of the happiest patients we have seen in our ward.”

"The patient is black, and the donor was white,” Professor Andre van der Merwe said. “We have very few donors for this transplant procedure.

"He is certainly one of the happiest patients we have seen in our ward. He is doing remarkably well.

"There are no signs of rejection and all the reconnected structures seem to be healing well.

"The patient is expected to regain all urinary and reproductive functions of the organ within six months of the transplant."

The professor added that the discrepancy will be corrected with medical tattooing in the next six to eight

Andre continued: ”The man had been in relationships before, but whenever the question of sex arose, he bailed out. That will no longer be a problem.

"He had been suffering with depression beforehand, and was even suicidal.

"We hope the rest of the world will catch on to the need for the operation."

This will be the first case of a penis needing to be medically tattooed after a transplant as the other two did not need it done.

Andre said the reason there are not many penis transplants is because of the lack of donors.

He said : ”It might be easier to donate organs that you cannot see, like a kidney, than something like a hand or a penis."

There are a higher number of penis mutilations in South Africa compared to other countries because of complications during ritual ceremonies.

A recent study published in the Journal of Materials Science found up to 55 cases of penis mutilation have been reported in the Eastern Cape alone.

Experts predict 250 partial and total penis amputations take place across South Africa each year.

“Traditional circumcision has claimed many young lives in South Africa, “ Western Cape health minister, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo said.

I think you're the kind who can not get into another's skin. Or in the shoes of another, as I think it is said in the States. Try. You will immediately understand that anything is better than nothing. For that man any penis is a huge improvement in the quality of life.

I would hope that with it said there is a lack of penises to be transplanted. Maybe the medical boards around the world will recognize those who wish to be willing to have their penis removed and then let it become more popular and not an act of secrecy to have done. Hopefully this opens lots of minds and eyes and can be further help those who had horrible fates and lost. And also help those who choose to not have, a win win situation.

Let me explain about that part of a man's anatomy that I know about.

The first thing the doctors told me after I broke my back was that the main killer of paraplegics was kidney failure. A neurogenic bladder doesn't empty itself and causes infections. To remove the penis would take the bladder That would necessitate creating a supra-pubic drainage directly to the kidneys. That is more prone to urinary infections.

I do not think that you could remove someone's penile structures without disturbing the bladder and re-routing the ureters.

I do not think that surgeons would destroy bladder function by removing the penis and testicles. In the case of severe and recurrent bladder and kidney infections, the ureters are merely re-routed and the infection stopped with antibiotics. The Penis, testicles and bladder are left in place.
