My personal view is, that in most cases it's better not to have the sex organs removed--if for no other reason, because it limits your options for the future. This is especially true for someone in his late teens or early twenties. The main piece of advice that I think should be communicated to someone considering this type of surgery, is that he make a detailed review of his life up to the present, and try to establish why he thinks the surgery would provide him with some benefit which outweighs the disadvantages. The person should then try to form a reasonably clear idea of what he wants for the future--at age thirty, forty, fifty and beyond. If he can't come up with any clear idea of what he plans for his future, or if he can't define how castration will affect that future, then he'd better hold off on having the surgery for a few years.

Incidentally, the testes can be implanted in the abdomen, to produce a "smooth" look in the crotch area, and, from what I have read, taking certain drugs causes a reduction in the size of the penis, without eliminating it altogether.
