Maybe some of you have seen this before, but it's an interesting read about some of the crude torture methods used during the Yugoslavian conflict in the early 1990s.

The article is from the United Nations Security Council. It's 752 pages, all of which can be ignored except page 59:
Another incident related in an interview involved prisoners lined up naked while Serb women from outside undressed in front of the male prisoners. If any prisoner had an erection, his penis was cut off. The witness saw a named Serb woman thus castrate a prisoner. Another ex-detainee told of suffering electric shocks to the scrotum and of seeing a father and son who shared his cell forced by guards to perform sex acts with each other.
This is the first time I've heard of erect penises being cut off. I always figured the penis would be flaccid when removed by enemy guards, mainly for reasons of fear and fight-or-flight. Has anyone else heard of a similar testimony during any war? Do you think it's common?

It could ultimately be made up, it was "related in an interview" after all and there is no concrete evidence that it actually occurred. (or is there?)

I suppose anything is possible since eyewitness testimony isn't always accurate. I've seen plenty of court case shows on TV and eyewitness testimony can be proven false by scientific evidence.
But, in this case, lots of popular sources have reported castration during the Yugoslavian conflict:

I would think it's a true event. Not sure why an erect penis would be targeted though.
My ideas are either: 1) It was so they could use the severed penis to rape the men's wives and/or sisters (or to insert into the man's anus for defiling the corpse in view of other prisoners)
2) It was to see which men weren't aroused so they could humiliate them by calling them mean names
3) It was to see which men were well-endowed so the female guards could have sex with them one time before cutting it off
Does anyone think any of these are possible scenarios?
