Actually, victims identifying with their kidnappers is not that uncommon.
Remember Patty Hearst? She was kidnapped and the the next thing you know is that she was spouting off revolutionary propaganda and holding a gun during a bank robbery.
I think that the name for it is the Stockholm Syndrome. The victim rationalizes the assailant behavior and internalizes it. The next thing that you know they are identifying with their kidnapper.
It is a type of survival behavior.
