Calcification in testicle

Post by chuckford (imported) »

About 16 years ago I had to have my left testicle removed due to a benign tumor. Several months ago I began having pain in my right testicle. The doctor concluded Epidydimitis and put me on Docicyclene. He also had me get an ultrasound. Today I found out I have calcifications in the testicle. I want a follow up with a urologist. I am by no means afraid of having it removed, even would welcome it. Does anyone know more on this? I have done searches on the net but came up with a lot of confusing info about treatment etc... I really loke the look of no balls, what are my chances?

Did they do any blood work to see if it is still functioning? If not they should take it.

Waiting to get referral to the urologist. Should see him within the week.

The usual rule of thumb is, if a medical condition can be treated by orchiectomy, and treated in some other way, doctors will never go with orchiectomy unless you push for it.

Well....there are a few things that can cause calcification of a testicle. The first obvious one that I would look for would be from previous damage. Old blood that is not entirely consumed by the body calcifies. This damage could be self inflicted such as with alcohol (or any other substance) injections. Trauma, getting kicked or bicycling accidents etc. Another possible reason could be cancer, however given your stated age is not likely. The urologist will likely repeat the US him/herself and determine if the blood flow is suspicious. IE too much blood flow to the area could mean cancer, too little would likely mean an old infarct (dead tissue due to lack of blood flow). Again given your stated age not likely to be cancer. Most Urologists would rather wait and see with a possible follow up in 6-12 months. However.... Again given your age, if you are married, have grown children, and no close family history of prostate cancer, they may be inclined to remove if you just tell them straight out what you want. They will naturally assume that you want T replacement which is why the history of prostate cancer is important. If it runs in your family then T replacement could increase your chances. Then again if it runs in your family and you don't want T replacement again level with the Doc and tell them keeping it is not worth the pain, and you have family (1st degree relative) with prostate cancer and you would like to lower your risk, they might actually just go ahead and do it for you. That said. Please, Please, Please be absolutely sure that you want it done. Many of us on this website are well adjusted and have little to no regret, however I would bet that there are just as many out there in deep depression after being castrated. Good luck.
