MONEY MONSTER (movie 2016) just hit PPV cable.

I watched it last night and again today. It is directed by Jodi Foster and stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

It entertains. A bit contrived but still entertaining.

Clooney plays Lee Gates, a TV host, who has a Jim Kramer Mad Money type financial show titled "Money Monster." Roberts is Patty Fenn, his producer. This day, he starts his show with the usual shenanigans and suddenly a man with two boxes appears on the set. He eventually disrupts the TV show with a gun and has Clooney put on a vest filled with plastic explosives. IBIS CEO Walt Camby is due to be interviewed by Lee Gates. Kyle Budwell demands that he talk to Walt Camby...

It seems that Kyle Budwell (played by Jack O'Connell) lost his only $60,000 in an investment company called IBIS that specializes in computerized trading -- it also seems the algorithm that controls IBIS' high-frequency trading just went south and lost $800 Million in one day. Walt Camby is somewhere in his plane and not to be found. After all, lose the world $800 million and a desperate loser his last $60K and things really go south -- like guns and explosive vests.

And the police are doing their oddly and rather un-helpful thing trying to get into the studio.

And therein is the story -- Why did IBIS lose all the money? Where in the world is Walt Camby? Will Kyle get his money back? Or, quite heartbreakingly will his girlfriend dump him on TV? Will Lee Gates succeed in having his audience make up the $800 Million by investing in IBIS?

Where are the Quants and the hackers and the money? Why did that algorithm fail so badly...

(And what is that funky erectile cream that Christopher Denham has in his pocket.)

It's not a perfect movie. It has lots of crazy plot holes but it entertains. Clooney is always good. Julia Roberts is always good.

And Jack O'Connell is so damn cute and could just visit my bed any day of the week.

I missed Sausage Party in the theaters but I will get it when it comes to my Cable.
