The Olympics gives too much glory to nations

and not the accomplished individual.

Solution: Participation by qualifying individuals regardless of nation.

Too many Olympic villages are built just to rot.

The best Summer Olympics I can remember was Los Angeles.

The best Winter Olympics I can remember was Utah.

Both venues had the capacity to manage such an event

without significant new construction.

And New Construction has its' corruptions, especially in Rio or Sochi or China.

Awarding an Olympics to sites that would require such constructions of no use to the peoples is absurd.

Short term employment while someone gets rich.

These corruptions destroy the Olympic Spirit.

I have no hope the IOC will recognize and act upon them.

The Dutch Prime Minister Rutte has declared that he don't want the Olympics in the Netherlands because of the high costs, to be payed by the taxpayers.

I remember years ago when Garmisch-Partenkirchen took over a Winter Olympics from a city that had deep financial troubles and wasn't ready. They had a very nice opening ceremony that was small and delightfully Garmisch... And the games were fine and went on to everybody's satisfaction.

Many cities just can't compete because it costs too much. That isn't the Olympic ideal but that's the one we are stuck with.

Simone Biles won a third gold medal in Women's Gymnastics.

I guess that NBC will show it tonight because they didn't show it yet today.

Damn their tape delays.

I think that NBC has more men's gymnastics tonight.

BTW - these two guys (the O'Donovan Brothers) win for best ever Olympic Interview...

Perhaps you missed it on one of the other NBC owned networks. NBC is airing various events across all their networks, not just the local affiliate you're accustomed to seeing as NBC.

I don't think I missed it but it's entirely possible.

The GOLF Channel shows Olympic Golf 24/7

NBC-Sports channel picks up most sports and has an overnight replay of lots of stuff... They have shown every Soccer game.

MSNBC News does various sports with time out for news and political shows.

NBC (whatever your affiliate is) has their primetime lineup.

USA channel carries general sports.

It's an adventure of channel changing.

All the swimming races are great.

I have caught wind-boards (surfboards with sails). I always knew what fluffing the opponent was...

I don't care for archery and rifle or skeet shooting because of the commentators. I wish they'd shut up.

Cycling I always watch.

Kayak is OK. Rowing and Sculls are better.

Diving is fun to watch.

Synchronized Diving is a hoot. I learned a couple 1 meter dives and could actually do a single 3 meter dive without fear.

Synchronized swimming is a mystery but pretty.

Gymnastics has always been a favorite.

I like Track and Field and caught the Shot Put and the Discus Gold .

Fencing is an altogether odd story with me.

Table Tennis I can watch but I'm not a fan (Astigmatism).

Lawn Tennis is just OK. Plays really fast.

Real Tennis I can watch and enjoy.

I don't like Volleyball.

I'm not a Basketball fan (again, nearsighted and astigmatic)

Dressage is a bore. Show jumping and steeplechase are fun.

I forgot things. Ask if you want.

Sarah Robles won the United States’ first Olympic weightlifting medal since 2000 Sunday, capturing a bronze in the 75-plus kilogram division. And if you can get a chance to hear her interviews, she's a delight and filled with enthusiasm.

And to point to another achievement (not a USA Athlete) but Poland's Anita Włodarczyk just did the hammer toss for a women's world record -- 269ft 11 3/4 inch. This is a 16 pound ball and chain thing ... Think of throwing a bowling ball 1/4 inch less than 270ft...

One more note:

Michael Phelps has more gold medals than most countries competing in the Olympics.
