Re: My experience with Dr. Arnkoff
You would be better off reducing the amount you inject rather than going longer between injections. You could very quickly suffer from osteoporosis. At age 65, you can likely take estrogen with little chance of any feminization.

I would suggest taking Raloxifene. It is a selective-estrogen receptor modulator and it works on preventing osteoporosis just like estrogen does, but it doesn't affect breasts or other female-like sexual side effects. I've taken it for years, and it is safe for long term use.

Hi, do you have any resource of literature that after age 65 estrogen can be used with little feminizing effect?

As I mentioned, don't take estrogen unless you are okay with feminization. If you don't want feminization, you need to use a selective estrogen medication like Raloxifene or Tamoxifen. You'll get all the benefits of estrogen without any feminization. They are safe for long term use, relatively inexpensive and readily available online without prescription.

Re: My experience with Dr. Arnkoff
It's been seven months and I thought I would update everyone. I've been off HRT since November. Hot flashes are pretty constant but very brief (maybe a minute or two). Certainly tolerable. Sex drive is zero and no erections at all. My wife has a lover and in the past watching her would get my sex drive really zoomed up. Now, nothing. It's like having vanilla friends over to our home and then I simply go to bed. Meanwhile, they're in her bedroom screaming (lol).
Why stop testosterone? My doctor made it mandatory to see him to get the prescription refilled. I've had no time to do so. Also, I wanted to check out being without testosterone. I'm ready now to go back on HRT. I just need to make it logistically easier to do so. My wife was giving me the injections which worked out fine.
Penis Shrinkage? Everything looks the same to me but without erections, it's difficult to tell.
Empty sack? Yeah, looks pretty empty. The swelling is completely gone except for a small "grape" sized knot at the end of each cord.
Emotions? No regrets. My feeling is that at age 65 who cares? However, I would caution anyone younger to carefully consider the emotional impact. When I do think about it, I could see myself feeling regretful if I was younger.
Thinking ability? I've read about some folks who felt "foggy" brained while off HRT. I don't detect that at all. I still go to work and I still engage in my hobbies. In fact, other than lack of sex, I don't feel different at all.
My only lifestyle change will be getting back on HRT. Once that happens (based on my previous experience) I will be right back to the way I was before surgery. This has been a fascinating ride.

Re: My experience with Dr. Arnkoff
WOW, over two years now since my surgery. Might as well provide an update. I am completely healed now, of course. I still have my sac but it is much smaller. I cannot feel anything inside of the sac so the cords must have completely retracted or shrunk. For personal reasons, I stopped testosterone shots for over a year. I just wanted to know what it was like. Sexual thoughts went completely away. No erections and no desire to masturbate. I have a very busy life and simply filled up my time with work and hobbies. I have not had an orgasm all this time and didn't miss it at all. Hot flashes are pretty regular throughout the day but are very brief, each one is less than a minute. No brain fog at all. My work is demanding intellectually and no one has noticed any changes at all. In fact, except for the loss of sexual desire (my goal), I don't feel one bit different emotionally or physically.
My wife (who has lovers for sex) asked that I go back on testosterone shots for health reasons. She gives me a low dose shot every 2 weeks (we are in month 2). I think the prescription calls for 1ml and we are using 1/4ml. Hot flashes went away. But, sexual desire is minimal, which is fine with me. Erections are difficult to achieve. I did have 1 orgasm, if you could call it that. The feeling was not intense (as before surgery). Of course, I am 67 so that is a factor. The low dose HRT is probably what motivated me to come back on this message board and provide an update.
I do not regret surgery at all. In fact, I am very happy to finally get rid of my intense sexual desires and preoccupation with porn/masturbation. I wish I had done it many years ago. The interesting fact of all this is that when my sex drive went away, so did my interest in anything sexual. I simply did not think about sex at all so I didn't miss it. What I want to do now is stay healthy but with minimal sex drive. I've thought about E instead of T to achieve this goal. Feminization is okay with me. I don't know if that is the better route. I suppose I should talk to a doctor who works with transgender patients. That may be my next step.

Re: My experience with Dr. Arnkoff
Thanks for the very interesting update. Great to hear most is as you want. I nearly " just did it" but don't to try androcur instead. Glad I did, at age 55, the side effects were pretty strong. My base line T is pretty high, and androcur took it to very low levels very quickly. Perhaps a few more Years and my natural levels will be lower and so not such a dramatic change. Thanks again for the update.

I've experienced pretty much the same changes you have. I never, ever want to go back on T because I have no desire to return to being sexual, including the distractions of sexual fantasies. One of my most intense fantasies in the past was to experience my wife having sex with another man. That's completely gone now and if she wanted a lover (which she doesn't), I'd probably be perfectly fine with it. Surprisingly, my mind seems to be working better than before. I'm much more able to focus on the task at hand. I also have a very intellectually demanding job and I'm taking a lot more enjoyment from it without the distractions.

Nutless is good. Now on E and feel very good. Only minimal feminization.
