When the Germans ordered Jews in occupied Denmark to identify themselves by wearing armbands with yellow stars during World War II, King Christian X of Denmark and non-Jewish Danes thwarted the order by donning the armbands themselves.

A few days later the Germans recinded the order :)

I interviewed a local lady for an article a year ago. She was born in Denmark and lived thru the occupation. There was not much they could do during the actual invasion because guns had been banned except maybe shoot spitwads at the Germans. It was not that bad at first, but was a classic case of little by little things got worse until it became horrible and the men were shipped off to Germany to "work" in factories. The first year after the war was really, really tough.
