He then went on to stab him to death to finish the meal off with slabs of meat from his lover’s back.

Notorious cannibal Armin Meiwes has shared the grisly details of how he met 43-year-old Bernd Brandes in an internet chatroom before going on to chop off his penis, kill him and eat him using his best china and candles.

Meiwes, 42, said the pair met after Brandes posted an advert inviting someone to eat him alive.

The pair shared an interest in cannibalism and the friendship struck up from there, Meiwes said.

After meeting at Meiwes's country house in Rotenburg, Germany, the pair had sex and then set about putting their plan into action.

Miewes said Brandes wanted to die and feel as much pain as possible so they had agreed that he should cut off his lover's penis first and they could eat it together.

However, Meiwes said he was forced to fetch a different knife as the first one he tried to use was too blunt.

Meiwes said: “Brandes screamed for 20 to 30 seconds and then he said he couldn’t feel any more pain.”

After frying the penis lightly in oil and eating it together, Meiwes ran a bath for Brandes and then stabbed him before chopping up and eating his corpse.

Meiwes said: “I decorated the table with nice candles.

"I took out my best dinner service, and fried a piece of rump steak – a piece from his back – made what I call princess potatoes, and sprouts. After I prepared my meal, I ate it.

“The first bite was, of course, very strange. It was a feeling I can’t really describe.

"I’d spent over 40 years longing for it, dreaming about it. And now I was getting the feeling that I was actually achieving this perfect inner connection through his flesh.

The cannibal filmed the whole thing which amounted to four hours of video.

Meiwes, who became known as the Master Butcher in Germany, became the first person in the country to ever be charged with murder for sexual satisfaction.

Police were tipped off about the killing and when they raided Meiwes’s remote home in 2002, they found Brandes’s head buried in the garden and chunks of his body in the freezer, which Meiwes said was wild pig.

During his trial, Meiwes said he had first become obsessed with eating someone while he was a teenager, but now he had done it, he felt it was something he did not need to do ever again.

Meiwes was convicted of manslaughter on January 30, 2004, and jailed for eight years.

Are you sure he is now free? I could not find anything about his being released from prison. He appears to be doing the interview from prison.

I remember that at some point his sentence was changed to life inprisonment. But it happened so long time ago, my memories might not be correct.

And probably there is no point to keep him in prison.

I wonder how he is going to find a job now? His life out of prison might be more difficult than in prison.

I remember there was a Japanese sexual killer, who killed a woman while he was studying in europe. He is long out of prison and as an aging man he described his life to be miserable. He never had any job and lived of money from interviews and a book about his killing. He felt suicidal and I think he at least once tried to kill himself.

Meiwes could find himself in the same position.

The lifelong penalty in Germany is about 15 years, than the case will be checked again. If the found someone mentally ill that person gets preventive custody for the rest of life. But you get less penalty for killing someone than for tax fraud. And there is no death penalty in Germany.
