Hi there. I've decided to pluck the old dangleberries, and I'm taking the stupidest possible path for achieving this, the do-it-yourself method.

As I type this, the blood supply has been cut of for about four and a half hours and my scrotum has turned dark purple, so there's no point trying to talk me out of it. It's probably too late to change my mind, or if not yet, it will be by the time I read your replies.

I'm partly typing this now to distract myself from the agonizing pain. Also to pass the time until I can take the next pain tablet. I bought the strongest over-the-counter pain medication I could get, a mixture of Ibuprofen and Codeine (I told the pharmacist it was to deal with a toothache while waiting for an upcoming dental appointment). But I'm supposed to wait for four hours between tablets, and since I started taking them after 45 minutes, there's another 15 minutes of waiting until the next one. I can't tell if the pain medication actually is having an effect. I did try ice-water to numb the pain, but the severe cold only makes it hurt worse.

I've been planning to do this for about nine or ten months, but decided to wait until my annual leave because this isn't something you can recover from over a weekend. I've got enough leave that I don't have to go back to work for an entire month. Hopefully I'll be okay to work by then. I'm also hoping that this foolish endeavour won't require a trip to the emergency room.

My original plan was to band myself with an elastrator. I bought one from eBay, and spent some time seeing if the elastration rings would react badly to any chemicals that they might be exposed to while on my body, such as body-wash and shampoo. I discovered that soaking them in a solution of Dettol for a few weeks made them become bloated and snap when stretched on the elastrator, so I decided to use an antiseptic cream instead of Dettol before banding instead, because the rings I smeared with the cream were unaffected.

But this plan hit a snag. I went to band myself, but discovered that the bands don't stretch far enough for my testicles to fit through. Not even a single testicle by itself. I watched a YouTube video showing how to use an elastrator on a goat, just to see if there was some kind of a trick to it. There was, you pull the scrotum through first, then push the testicles through one by one, but this didn't work for me. My balls were just too big. (I assume that there must be larger-sized elastrators out there, but I can't find any info about them.)

So instead I went with plan B. Cable-ties. I've tried cable-ties on my scrotum before (but with no intent of actually castrating myself with them at the time), They're uncomfortable, but clearly capable of doing the job.

Problems with using cable-ties instead of bands are:

1. They have edges. I suspect thus makes elastration even more uncomfortable than with banding, as the edges dig-into the flesh.

2. They tend to scrunch the scrotum up in one place when tightening. I've reduced this problem a bit by using two cable-ties instead of one, with the tail of each tie slotted into the head of the other, so I can tighten it from either side.

3. They're not elasticised. They don't tighten by themselves, so you have to do it manually. I've been periodically checking if I can pull them another notch tighter. Click, click, click. This is very hard to bring yourself to do when your scrotum feels like it's on fire, and even the slightest touch causes great pain.

I did have some comfort food prepared, but all the pain has caused me to lose my appetite.

I wouldn't trust cable ties to hold those arteries shut if you slice it off.

I'd recommend heading to the ER, as this is already beyond Bactine and a BandAid.

You've been "planning" this for months? Then you are suicidal if you've spent any time at all looking at this site. You should be posting to a suicide support / depression forum, not a site designed to support safe options for becoming a eunuch. Good luck, and if anything bad happens you deserve it 100%.

While getting castrated can be a valid choice, don't turn this into a suicide. Not only blood loss , but a blood clot from this could induce a stroke. Get to the hospital right away. Having tried self castration myself a while back, sympathize and wish you a speedy recovery. Please post when you are out of the hospital

It is not IF, it is when. They do slip, even from hard surfaces.

And yes - only one possible suggestion. if you really did it - go to ER, there is no safe way to do it the way you describe.

Okay, you've convinced me.

I was going to stay the course, and try to finish the job myself, despite well-meaning posts telling me to go to the hospital and the comparisons to suicide. After all, a high-risk decision may be very risky, but that's not the same thing as suicidal.

But your posts prompted me to make up a hospital kit just in case, containing a change of clothing, a book, an MP3 player loaded with music, ect, and especially including my wallet which I've checked still has my Medicare card in it.

But while putting all that together, I came to the conclusion that you're right.

So I've left plenty of food and water out for my cat and now, after 10 hours of circulation being cut off, I'm about to head off to the hospital. I'll just tell them I put the cable-ties on too tight last night and couldn't get them off, and was too embarrassed to go in earlier.

Time to get to the doctor.

I haven't cut the scrotum open yet. I was going to wait a few days for that. I was going to slit open the bottom and remove the testicles and fluids, keeping more cable-ties on stand-by to use as an emergency tourniquet in case things went wrong so I'd have time to get emergency medical treatment.

That's a very good thing to do in the position that you are in right now.

No on two accounts:

1) The cords that the testicle hang from contain blood vessels as well as nerves and ligaments. When the testicles are removed, those cords quickly retract into the body and you won't be able to find them to stop the bleeding.

2) Being a liquid, blood is slippery and your fingers aren't that strong. That means the cords will slide into your body and bleed.
