Cadavers are cut open by medical students, cadaver tissue is harvested to be used in cosmetic applications, and so forth. If you're not squeamish about that, it seems weird that you'd be squeamish about the genitals being harvested.....

Well finding a severed penis in your pocket would be freaky to say the least. What do you do with it afterwards must be a strange decision to make. As for head transplants, one is scheduled for 2017, google it and you'll find it. If it works it's going to create a panic, older people will be looking for younger bodies and it will do away with transgender surgery if you can cross male heads with female bodies or vice versa.

I do not think so about transgender surgery - current approach does not need a lifetime of antirejection drugs (and hormones are IMO safer).

I think using combination of donor's own cells and tissue printing has more possibilities, and would be ultimately safer.

And transplanting the head, if rejection starts... I'll just say that making "Professor Dowell's Head" non-fiction is frightening. (I am all for technology and progress. If they'll be able to fix/connect the spinal cord properly - it would lead to treating spinal damage in other patients.)

It would not work with transsexuals/transgender MtF patients. Part of the penis is reused to form the vagina and clitoris. It would work with nullo minded men who want everything removed with no desire to have anything left behind. I think it would be interesting if this ever happened. No, it would work with transgender because it would be a genital swap, meaning that there would be a corresponding vagina transplant. While they have made a lot of advances in constructing a vagina through penile inversion, from those I know who have had it done a "real" vagina would be a better result. Eventually they could go further and swap the testicles for the ovaries. If you did these swaps before either person took too many hormones, the result could be pretty good.
