Smoothie36; After reading all the input. I myself would prefer it done with a local. As was done when I had my vasectomy. I do not do well with a total knock out. [/I]

I would defintiely prefer local, but I think I would not have that option in the hospital that my insurance cover.the idea of they put me to sleep during a surgery simply scare me, I´m afraid don´t awake again!!!,.I´m in hormones so clotting is another of my concerns,. anesthesia and prolonged immobilization promote clots devpeloment

how long before the surgery I must drop all of my hormones?????

does anyone know?

I prefer the idea of going to sleep with these things I don't want and then waking up without them. The process isn't something I crave or fetishise or even want, I want the results.

I asked for local. But I get castrated just above scrotum skin but still below inguinal ring. Doc said the strong stretching of the cord necessitates general. I get castrated on 29Dec2015. Kirk

No need to stop any Meds except aspirin or blood thinners. Doc will go over this before surgery. Kirk

You get castrated on 29 of December 2015? 😱 🔨

Today is only December 10, 2015. 😄

Based on furry's other posts, (I think) what he was saying is that it hasn't been done yet and is scheduled for the 29th, and that local was requested but the doctor determined that general is more appropriate in that specific case.

For me personally, local would be my preference if/when I get it done for some of the reasons already cited by others. Mainly cost and the risk of complication associated with general. Since in my case it would be considered an "optional" procedure, my insurance would not cover it and with anesthesia and hospital fees my out of pocket cost for general could easily be double or more compared to local. And I have several family members in various branches of medicine. All agree that local is generally a better option when available and that anesthesia is an unnecessary risk in many cases.

But I'm kind of in a holding pattern for the moment. While I've wanted to be rid of my balls for a while, my discovery of this community and that castration may be an actual option is much more recent. I fantasized about it for so long though that the line between that fantasy and the new reality is still a bit blurry. I feel like I need to step back and separate the fantasy from the reality, and make sure the reality is what I truly want. I've started looking for a sympathetic therapist who may be able to help me sort all this out. I'm strongly leaning toward getting it done, but its a big and rather permanent decision.

KingBob, that's a very reasonable position to take.

Given a choice I would opt for the local anaesthetic for the removal of both the nuts and the scrotum. I've already had a vasectomy that way and it wasn't that bad.

The response is running about 3 to 1 in favor of a Local anesthesia. Less complicated and less costly than General. I suspect medical people are more comfortable when you are not involved, as in "asleep".
