I felt this was very well done.

As a professional uncle, "bad grandpa" for the next-gen, and overall part-time parent, this is something I've never had to deal with, and probably won't.

The two oldest next-gen kids are a boy and a girl, in the right body, all the way to the bone.

It's sort of a double-standard, I think, that the classical Tomboy has been accepted (to varying degrees), SO much more than, shall we say, effeminate boys.

My take on it, should the Little XX Princess here pop up and think she's a boy someday, perhaps 6, like Daniel in the film, I'm all for it.

Then again, I handle boys so much better. I panic with girly things, you know.

What pains me most with these kids is the FtM's not being able to have the "perfect" body they want. Make that NEED.

Thanks for posting this.

Works, no trouble, but then I use a different OS (Linux) and browser (tor) from most.

The piece is interesting, and raises many Q's. But I am left wondering how many of the difficulties are own making. My daughter's generation takes gender and its non-binary and non-permanent nature much more naturally than older folks. Maybe we have more to learn from our commendably inclusive and relaxed progeny?

Many here would accept anyone on a continuum M-----E; maybe our spectrum needs to be wider.

The younger generation certainly has a very different idea of gender and to "old" guys such has myself it seems incomprehensible. I have an eleven year old nephew who's all boy. Sam's a rough and tumble, spots loving, bike riding little daredevil. And yet he owns two dresses, one pink and the other yellow, but both very frilly and feminine. He'll dress as a girl maybe two or three times a month, no more than that and never at school or in front of friends. He might dress as a girl when he's going out to dinner with family and knows he won't be spotted by anyone he knows. His parents consider his cross dressing a harmless game.

Why Sam does this I can't really say. But his hair is long enough and his features are pretty enough that he has no problem passing as a girl. I think he likes fooling adults but I really don't think of him as transgender. But what I find really interesting is that when Sam's dressed as a girl her (and yes the pronouns change with the cloths) demeanor is different. She's more thoughtful, less implosive and much sweeter. I'm able to enjoy Sam both as a girl and as a boy. I really can't say how many little boys act this way. For all I know Sam might be the only one. But I think in the future you might see more boys and girls cross dressing.

The movie also showed caution, the buying of time against unwise permanent decisions, as well as inclusion of all kids. Wise folks advise likewise on EA.

It seems the younger generation fears nothing from including a wide and changing spectrum, so what exactly is it the the older folk fear? Why is it so much of an issue?

Having attended PFLAG and other meetings, having met some of these families, all I can say, is WOW!!!

Knowing a fine young trans guy that works out at the local gym with his father, that kid is BUFF. If the rest of his life is as good as it's developing, he has an amazing future.

On the other hand, there is a rurral kid that is trying MtoF and she's having a tough time of it. The family isn't as well financed, and the schools aren't as understanding.

The opportunities that some of these kids have today, if the families can afford it, are just never thought about 50 years ago.

But I'm of an age that remembers phones before rotary dials, outhouses, and having a few silver dollars in your pocket.

Much is in the media about Bruce / Caytlin Jenner, and I have worked wiith transgendered people as long as 40 years ago. Jenner might think he's had it tough, but years ago these people had a lot of discrimination against them. Churches and families Shamed them and some ended their lives.

What I have trouble with is what to call them, is it trans-sexual or just putting lipstick on a pig?

Once I was married I came to realize, that if men could understand women, they still wouldn't believe it.
