Dormant Testicles Question

Post by Wolf-Pup (imported) »

I have been on Testosterone for hypogonadism since 2008. My testicles have shutdown and shrunk in the intervening years (as has my scrotum).

What I am not clear on, is there a difference between chemical castration vs testosterone induced shutdown? Are the testicles dormant in the same manner in either case?

They are dormant not dead, so it isn't like having to worry about any dangers from that correct? I know that the injected testicles (CACL or Alcohol) are dead tissue and a cancer concern.

Thanks!

Back when I had testicles and was on testosterone, my Dr. also prescribed me Clomid, which is a drug used to increase fertility in women, but it also is used off label to stimulate the testis in men and keep them function instead of shutting down when there is exogenous testosterone. The Clomid was supposed to keep my testicles plump and functioning. You might try asking your Dr. for Clomid to see if your balls come back.

Thanks, but I don't worry about bringing them back, more just if there is any long term worries. And to clarify the difference I outlined above just so I know the difference if there is one between the various states of dormancy.

My insurance wouldn't cover Clomid or HCG even if I was able to get a script for one.

Personally I would advise getting them removed if you can, since they no longer work and could possibly be a source of problems in the future. You are getting the testosterone your body needs, so just get rid of the dormant and shrunken testicles.

I have the same situation where I wasn't producing enough testosterone on my own and have been on TRT for one year now with a shot every 3 weeks. The testicles have shut down and atrophied making them almost invisible. I have no problem with this and don't miss them. I also wondered why the doctor doesn't just take them off to avoid long term problems but I have not perused that with him. I have been afraid to ask about it.

So, how long does it take to cause testicular shutdown with HRT? Willy says one year, and Wolf-Pup says they've been shut down for a long time, seven years on.

Actually I noticed that there was testicular shut down within the first couple of weeks after the shots were started. They shrank down rapidly at first, now after about 2 years of shots they are about the size of a peanut (or the first little joint in my little finger) and very soft. I still don't miss them getting in the way all the time.

Thanks for the info folks.

I am about to see a consultant about low T this week (The last blood test showed I was borderline at 11.6).

I would probably opt for passing on the Clomid as infertility isn't a problem neither is the peanut sized balls.
