Re: Seeing Dr Arnkoff next week
Eunuch Brotherhood! I had my radical orchiectomy by my urologist last May 14, and I'm delighted with my new, large prosthetic testicles! Without spermatic cords to hold them back, I'm getting a nice stretch on my scrotum, and getting a nice set of low-hangers, which I love! My atrophied testicles were so light weight, they would sit about halfway up my scrotum, leaving a lot of loose skin below.

Monkey50,
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us.
I hope finding a willing doctor in Australia can be as easy as Dr Arnkoff in the States.

Re: Seeing Dr Arnkoff next week
Hi Monkey50,
Glad to hear you had a positive experience with Dr. A and are on the mend. I saw him about 3 months ago, in late June, and my experience was pretty similar to yours. However, I actually looked closer than you did at the surgical equipment that was laid on the table, which caused me to freak out and tell Dr. A that I'd changed my mind. He compassionately talked me through it though and I remembered that castration was what I wanted, so I ended up going through with it. I had some "Oh dear God, did I make the right choice" mini-freakouts for the first couple days, but I had a great support network--my partner and a couple friends were just a phone call away while I was in the hotel, and the folks on EA were great too. Now I'm totally fine emotionally.
I'm taking a full dose of T (two pumps of Androgel each morning) and I actually feel better than I did when I had balls. My T back then was low-normal (293, I think) and now it's in the 500s. Funny how that works. I get a hell of a charge out of rubbing my empty sac or having it rubbed during sex, too.
And in case you're wondering, I felt completely healed about 5 weeks after the surgery. The spermatic cords were still a bit large then, but they seem to be shrinking now. My endocrinologist says they'll probably totally recede at about a year post-surgery.
Speaking of endocrinologists, I'd advise everybody who wants to take hormones post-orchiectomy to get with a good, trans-aware endo before going to see Dr. A. My endocrinologist specializes in trans folks (and I do think of myself as trans...not every eunuch does, but I do) and she's been great. Two other things that I have and which I advise other people considering orchiectomy to get are a very helpful therapist who specializes in gender/sexuality issues, and a PCP who's aware of my "condition" and okay with it. My therapist helped me realize that orchiectomy was the right choice, and he also gave me a reality check and some coaching via phone a few hours after I'd had the orchiectomy done. My PCP is new (I've only had one visit with him) but knowing that I could be upfront about my voluntary orchiectomy made life a lot less stressful.
So yeah, life's good for me post-orchie. Hope things continue to go your way, Monkey50!

I am also in Sydney and if you are serious about getting castrated, send me a PM. I was castrated by a urologist here in March last year.

Wow, had never considered that, prosthetics are the furthest thing from my mind but I wonder how that feels… Do I assume correctly that you can rotate them freely within the scrotum? Probably a cool feeling.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts, it’s super valuable to get the perspective of someone ahead of me in the process, especially someone who was treated by the same Doc. The 5 weeks thing makes a lot of sense to me now, if I can cover as much ground as I have in the last (almost three). Keep in touch: have any plans for any more procedures with Dr A? You sound pretty satisfied with where you are.

Re: Seeing Dr Arnkoff next week
19 days post orchiectomy
So I have a (self-diagnosed but probably accurately) dehiscence in my scrotal surgical wound. Apparently it is common for wounds in scrotums to experience this, oddly about 10 days after the original wound. Thats consistent with my experience if you read back. Was feeling a little better and certainly wasnt doing anything overly vigorous, but was leaning over to pick up something and felt a little tinge, a shifting of skin, and since then my scrotum has been leaking.
Dehiscence is a botany word for seeds that split open along a seam.
Its not bad, and its been getting better every day, but I have learned a lot about buying and using maxi pads because Ive had to use them since my surgery. The discharge is a straw-colored fluid tinged pink with blood, with no foul smell, no redness/irritation or new swelling in fact, the generalized swelling continues to go down noticeably every day. Asked Dr A if I needed to keep on with antibiotics and he said nope! Pretty much every time I check with him or send a picture the answer is the same "looks okay." Really get the impression this guy has really seen it all.
My spermatic cords are still rocking and maybe average/small testicle size, but they sit up high, like nuts on a high shelf resting snugly almost beside the base of my penis. Not too tender, they can be touched, though Im obviously careful.
So, the incision is not open or gaping, though the side where the drain was is the most leaky/productive part. Ive exercised a few times with a much gentler routine than usual, and used steri-strips to give the scrotum some encouragement to stay together, though I should note that most everything Ive ready (including Dr. As instructions) are to NOT CLOSE IT UP at all with any method. Closing it up apparently guarantees infection, so you gotta let your scrotum do what it wants to do, that is, heal up from the inside out. Keeping up with the snug underwear and in good spirits now that the pain/tenderness/throbbing is mostly resolved. Will have a whole new level of positive outlook when Im not actively leaking, though.
If you squint you can still see a little bruising but its basically completely gone. Havent taken a big, normal dose of testosterone yet but probably will soon. Going to have to start a log to see how I feel with different doses would love to keep same energy levels as before and not have the weight gain, with the absence of erections and sexual preoccupation. Sort of suspect those things cannot be separated, but we'll see. Quite nice to have the evenness of mind. Its not exactly a feminine feeling, but maybe a little. Rather a gentleness about ones self or willingness to be kind to myself and others. Its certainly a noticeable feeling.
I find it fascinating that we think ourselves in command of our thoughts, reactions, and emotions. To have the ability to change something (like removing testicles, extreme, or taking hormones, or maybe taking a mood-altering drug like an antidepressant) and notice the change in the way your emotions are processed is really interesting.

Congratulations. It's good to hear that you also feel good about the eunuch feeling.
Originally, I got it for medical reasons, and now, it does feel good indeed.
Cautionary not to those able to choose: be careful what you wish for. While it may be very good, make sure that you really have understood it is not possible to undo. -Like many stages in life, I guess.

Wise advice.
In my case, I lurked for a long time, was shocked at first, but over a period of years started to understand and reflect on my feelings and perception of myself that had really been present but not articulated for most of my life. Suddenly seemed right, and when I made the decision, I did it right away. Now that I'm starting to heal, I'm even happier but haven't looked back.
I think a great degree of consideration is warranted. Good idea to talk with a therapist and work through it, too.
