Hey! Monkey50! How's it going? You must be back home by now. I give you points for grit. I wouldn't want to deal with air travel right now. I'm content in my recliner with my laptop & TV remote. We both had double orchies 2 days apart with some notable differences, doctors, local vs. general anesthesia & our ages, you're about 45, I'm 71. It will be interesting to compare our healing progress as time goes on.

Well, on reflection, if I had to do it over, I wouldn't have come home as quickly. I'm happy to be home but the short flights with one brief layover was very frustrating. I kept a stealth baggie of ice on my groin pretty well but it's just too much moving around and the regular minor frustrations of flying really hit home when you're in this state!

I've stopped taking the hydrocodone. It really does a number on me... seemed to help with pain a bit of course, but nausea, constipation, trouble urinating... not worth it. Extra strength tylenol and ice and rest is the best bet. Already feeling a little more lively when I don't have to deal with the drug issue.

Have a few weird moments where a thought pops up into my head about if this was real or not! I am fairly good about separating doubts that pop up during the depths of not feeling well, and as soon as I got clear of the side effects of my pain medicine my spirits improved. The scrotum itself is sore when touched or prodded, so I'm careful there but we're all used to not knocking it around too much. My soreness is more in the lower ab/pubic region. Feels tight and swollen inside, which I guess is the swelling of the spermatic cords. When I stand up and start walking I'm a little pitched forward, like I've just been kicked in the nuts or if you've ever felt the ULTRA SWOLLEN sensation of holding your pee way longer than you should have, that's pretty much the feeling. Not tragically bad, but laying down or stretching out on the couch is heavenly. As I approach 36 hours post surgery, I feel like I'm approaching a little turn in healing. Tentatively starting to feel a bit better. Scrotum certainly still feels full of stuff, though is shaped differently than before. The swelling overall is odd and lumpy, but I seem to have avoided any massive hematoma or a hugely swollen scrotum, so that's positive!

Emotionally, kind of tired of thinking about it to be honest, but it's still exciting. I look at this change as giving me options. If I want to be manly and sexual, I can take a good regular dose of test. If I don't, I can back off a bit. It also feels like some pressure is off of me: not that I've ever been pressured into sex or felt that directly (I'm not even that sexually active with my spouse -- we're down to a few times a year, though she's a wonderful wife), being castrated sort of removes that sense that I better go have sex or there's something wrong with my relationship if I don't go service my spouse. I'm looking forward to doing some sexual things with her that don't involve me having an erection. All new, good territory.

Three days post orchiectomy

Lying down or stretched out I’m very comfortable, which is nice. Got a decent night’s sleep last night, which helped my overall outlook. My appetite is also back, now that I’m off the pain pills. Honestly, stopping the hydrocodone improved how I felt 100%. The symptoms of that stuff — difficulty urinating, constipation, nausea, etc — are just not worth it. Wow, I thought at one point it would be nice to tuck that stuff away so I could have some pain pills just in case, but forget that! I’m flushing this stuff.

Emotionally, I feel good! Still pretty exciting and happy I did all this. I’ve still got quite a bit of testosterone in my system, though I haven’t taken my normal injection (which is every 3.5 days) because the night time erections, while not painful, definitely get my attention.

Got some impressive bruising (especially on the ass, which is interesting) but I’d like to think the dark bruises are a sign of healing. :)

I'm experiencing much the same things you are. Lying down is the most comfortable position, which is how I spent most of the long weekend. And it seems to help the swelling. I can feel the difference when I'm on my feet for a while. Good to know I'm not the only one who is bruised. None on my butt but I'm bruised and swollen up in to my lower pelvis and throughout my scrotum. It doesn't seem any smaller than it was when there were balls inside. It can only be described as damn ugly. It's going to take a long time to heal. But each day seems to be a tiny bit better than the previous one.

You're right about the pain meds too. They do their job well but it comes with a price. I quit them on Saturday and now it's Extra Strength Tylenol every six hours along with an antibiotic capsule. My digestive tract seems to be getting back to normal too.

Same deal here, my scrotum feels as full as it did before. The Dr mentioned that I might wonder if he had actually removed the testicles and made a point to reassure me (including offering to let me see and photograph, which I did), so I guess this question comes up a lot. He said since the cords were the main blood supply and those were tied off, they tended to swell up into little balls and it takes quite a while for them to shrink and vanish. I've graduated to the same dosage on Extra Strength Tylenol and antibiotics every six hours. Easier for everything.

Good to have the point of comparison!

That's an interesting coincidence. I just posted in my thread about wondering if my balls were still in there . Then I opened your thread and you mention the same concerns. Funny! 😄

I guess I was lucky. I didn't really have much swelling.

I also didn't really have much pain/discomfort. I used two pain pills on the Saturday of the operation, and two on Sunday, mostly so I could sleep. However, starting on Monday, I didn't use any pain medication at all, not even tylenol. Dr A prescribed 60 pills, so I used 4 and flushed the rest about a week later.

Despite feeling my scrotum just after waking to make sure that mine were gone, I also developed heamatomas to the extent that it looked as if I still had testicles. I went to my local GP pretending to be worried about what was causing the swelling and he sent me for an ultrasound which confirmed that my testicles had indeed been removed. The swelling gradually shrinks over the next 4-6 weeks after castration or mine did anyway. Don't worry, this seems to be a pretty common occurrence. All will shrink back and you will be able to enjoy an empty scrotum or if you so choose have it removed. I want my scrotum removed as soon as I can afford the surgery. I think for me a trip to Thailand will be the cheapest option.
