Being gay in Mexico circa 1658

Post by MacTheWolf (imported) »

After a series of denunciations, authorities in Mexico City arrested 123 people on suspicion of homosexuality. About 99 of these people managed to disappear with outside help. The Royal Court sentenced 14 to death by being burned at the stake, in accordance with a public law passed by Queen Isabela. Several other of the accused we're given minor sentences. The burnings all occurred on November 6, 1658.

So much for the Holy Inquisition.

This is actually a rather late historical date as far as the settling of Latin America is concerned so this makes me wonder what all had transpired before the 1700s in "New Spain" (much of which is now Mexico).

A guy, who shall remain unnamed, ask me via a EA private message that he be let back in the chat room after he was banned for being pro-Christian. Turns out he had been arguing in favor of that pizza place that refused equal service to gays. I told him that 65% plus of the chat room is gay. He said they can't be Christians and be gay.

Needless to say the ban stands with a yes vote of all three moderators :)

And then there is this major argument that can easily be made that Jesus was gay himself.

-And then somebody here once angrily wrote me he was a hermaphrodite (which he very well could have been),

-in response to my argument that Queen Esther herself was an actual eunuch. Oh well. such is life.
