While looking for information about the castrati I came across an MSc thesis called "The Castrato Sacrifice: Was It Justified" by Jennifer Sowle, and thought it might be of interest to some of the EA members, if so the link for this thesis is:

I made it to page 4 before I gave up. If that was a thesis, whoever approved it didn't know much either.

I think it is a very good synopsis but somewhat too concise at the beginning. Hopefully she's able to expand on this since she's definitely onto something. Her interest was more into the eunuchs of music rather than on eunuchs in general. But it is good.
