what are some side effects of anti androgens not related to testosterone

Post by Victoriantrans (imported) »

I'm aware of the effects of reducing or eliminating testosterone absorption in the body, but not the effects of the anti androgens themselves. What are some of those side effects?

The one i'm thinking of is liver failure due to Andocur/Cyproterone.

I Thonk this is the most the most important one.

Take care.

When steroidal antiandrogens such as cyproterone and medroxyprogesterone are used, two of the most importants side effects are Its potential of producing liver damage and thromboembolis., As they´re progestins most of Its side effects are related to Its nature: Headaches, nausea, dizzines, change in body weight, medroxyprogesterone exerts some androgenic effect so is more likely to cause increase in body weight, lipids and carbohydrate metabolism issues. Spironolactone is not that potent, so alla those effects are rarely presents , Its major risk is a probable rise in potassium levels.

Nonsteroidal antiandrogens or called pure antindrogens such as flutamide and bicalutamide nilutamide have the potential of causing hepatotoxicity .

BTW this is my 200th post!!! :) :) :)

Liver damage doesn't sound good. What's the best way to minimize that, avoiding alcohol, not smoking & taking a proper dosage?

Is the vein issue the same as some females are having with blood clots when taking newer versions of hormonal birth control?

You Have said correctly. Exceeding in doses and staying a longer time on these is dangerous. Smoking, drinking, sedentary lifestyle, and a background on liver, clotting issues have to do as well. All treatment on estradiol plus a progestin wich is the basis of the birth control pills, have the potential to cause clotting and liver damage in some extent. The most dangerous of siynthetic estrogens is ethinil estradiol, has been proved that produces an rise in angiotensin levels. Progestins derivated from testosterone : norethisterone, norethindrone etc,and those with some androgenic activity are more likely to cause coagulation issues and liver overcharge. The route of admninistration is important, oral contraceptives presents an intense first-pass hepatic metabolism unlike the parenteral route that is exempt from It. The problem with injectables is that usually comes in high strenghts which might be able to produce liver overcharge and there´s a major risk of over-dosification If the treatment is not medical-supervised.

The FDA studies suggesting liver issues were based on geriatric patients taking over 800mg of CA per day. Highly unlikely that you will encounter issues unless you already have compromised liver functions.

All substances we apply through the mouth, will pass the liver. And liver tries to neutralize substances, that are not in natural food (like alcohol). By by doing her job, the liver can become demaged. But the liver is a very forgiving organ and can recover from demages. Only if the demages are very severe, liver becomes destoyed. The function of liver can be monitored by regular blood tests. Taking substances can be stopped, if blood tests give alarm.

It is far better to take anti-adrogens or HRT by injection, or if available, as gel. So they will not pass the liver. For example testosterone is never prescribed as pill, because this will demage the liver very much. This is known in the medical community, therefor you will get testosterone only as injection, paving or gel. About anti-adrogens or estradiol I don't know. They are surerly a charge for the the liver, the question is only, how much. This depends highly on personal constitution.

If sombody want's to get rid of testosterone, some years of chemical castration may be fine. But after some years, it's better to look for surgical castration, if there is a definite decision to avoid testosterone forever.
