Strange cold case perplexes sheriff

TORRANCE COUNTY, N.M. —Law enforcement in New Mexico are looking for a man who is missing his penis.

Investigators said a Torrance County woman found the male body part on her porch seven years ago. She called 911 immediately.

“We arrived on scene and identified it as a male appendage and started our investigation from there,” Torrance County Sheriff Heath White said.

White said investigators searched a massive, extensive area in the county on horseback, foot and ATV.

“We were trying to locate either a body or what took place here. Did a violent crime happen, or was there some other circumstance of how this got there?” White said.

Deputies never found a body. They sent the penis to a crime lab to test it for DNA and searched for information on anyone who might be missing in the area.

Seven years later, the case remains unsolved and perplexing.

“We may find a leg or we may find a body part here and there, but we've never found a male appendage before without a body,” White said.

The sheriff has some theories, though.

“(Maybe) this was a home sex change, but you don't know. Or was this a murder, or a cartel-related issue where this was made to make a statement?” he said.

In some cultures, a man caught molesting a child could lose his penis.

“It is within the culture for the family members to pretty much take care of their business and remove that body part themselves,” White said.

The sheriff said none of the theories were at all tied to the family who discovered the penis.

I actually asked my ex to cut off mine when we she left. I told her I wouldn't need it anymore, and that I wanted her to know she was my last. (Bear in mind, I had never mentioned my penectomy fantasies to her before.) I thought she might be freaked out by my request, but she just shook her head and said, "I can't." I still wish she had.
