New Treatment For Enlarged Prostate

Post by jcat (imported) »

I have suffered from prostate problems for years. Anyone who has had this knows how painful and debilitating it can be.

I stumbled across this and thought it worth posting:

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate – BPH) is one of the most common medical problems suffered by men. Prostate enlargement is observed in around 40% of men in their 50s, and in around 60% of men in their 60s. In ages of 70 and above, the phenomenon is even more common. An enlarged prostate impedes quality of life, from disturbance to sleep due to a frequent need to urinate during the night (nocturia) to urgent hospitalization due to urinary retention (inability to urinate).Despite the fact that millions of men around the world suffer from this problem, many men do not treat it. This is because almost all of the conventional surgical treatments that treat directly the prostate offered at present involve side effects with serious consequences, such as impotence or urinary incontinence.

What is the New Treatment? After many years of research, Dr. Yigal Gat and Dr. Menachem Goren have found the origin for the evolution of prostate enlargement. In articles published around the world, they reported on newly found route of testosterone to reach the prostate in high concentration directly from the testes. The results of this research led them to develop a new method of treating the problem of enlarged prostate, without the well-known side effects. The Gat Goren method for treating enlarged prostate is based on a smart and unique catheterization technique performed under local anesthesia only, in a procedure that takes around two hours. During the procedure, the entire network of malfunction veins that divert ("illegally") the flow of testosterone into the prostate is located and treated. Testosterone is the known factor in medicine that control the volume of the prostate gland. High concentration (intraprostatic) increases prostate volume low concentration decreases prostate volume. The treatment causes an improvement in the symptoms, and within weeks to few months later, a reduction in the size of the prostate can already be measured. Many patients who have undergone the treatment report a change in their quality of life after the first month.

Advantages of the Procedure

No risk of impotence as in regular surgery.

No risk of injury to continence as in regular treatments.

None of the other risks and side effects of surgery.

No opening of the abdomen.

No pain.

No hospitalization.

Local anesthesia only.

No contact with the sexual organs.

No risk of harm to fertility.

Short duration of procedure (around two hours). Following 48 hours of rest, the patient can return to his routine, including full sexual activity.

More importantly there are some papers:

This is very interesting and worth investigating. I wonder how this would work with someone who is already castrated and on TRT.

I doubt it would have any effect. Since the treatment reduces excess T going from the testicles to the prostrate.

This treatment could be a great help to many intact men who don't yet have BPH but do have overactive prostrates.

It probably would reduce semen production resulting in less pressure and reduce the need to ejaculate frequently.

Could be a good alternative to castration when libido reduction is desired.

I am on TRT and definitely suffer from BPH, but am a little confused at this point. Based upon the article, I would think that anyone who is castrated and not on any TRT would then have zero issues with BPH. Is this true? And also, I am under the assumption that T production stops in the testicle, as a result of being on TRT? If my testicles are shutdown, and I lower my dosage of TRT, then could I expect my prostate to shrink?

Good Evening to all; This a great subject, and a little change here. This is about having your prostate removed thru surgery. Now that I am five months post surgery, and all is going O.K. This is where the doctors do not tell you some of the side effects that you will have and not everybody is the same. When they remove the prostate they disconnect everything to the twins. And they swelled up about two times there size for about two weeks and where VERY sore. About 2 1/2 months after surgery I started having night sweats, and some very good ones at that. I also started to SHRINK, Now 5 months after, Willy can be called a micropenis, it is so small. I was about 4 inches soft, before surgery, now it is almost inside, with a turtle neck. And the twins are pulled up inside. I have had one orgasm after surgery and it took a little work to get, and it was DRY. totttally. As for an erection that is impossible. My T-level before surgery was at 240, now that T level is at 194, which is great. As for the incontinence part. after surgery I was using 5 to 7 pads preday. Now I have to use one preday, and from that, after. I have read it takes about a year to hopefully get that under control. Yes things have changed, and I hope it will get better. I do have a question for some of the members out there, that have had this type of surgery, and how they have had some side effects after.
