The Walking Dead 2015 (season 5, part two)

Season 5 episode 9 "What's Happened and What's Going On"

Never let it be said that The Walking Dead is easy on viewers.

This is a sad episode and white a different episode visually and story-wise.

The group is leaving Atlanta and heading north to Virginia where there might be a safe place to stay. Owe get a subset of the group -- Rick Grimes, Tyrese, Bob (from the hospital), Michonne in the lead car. The time frame is 17 or 19 days from the hospital when they reach the place in Virginia (over 500 miles) and things happen.

The zombies are deader and more rotted, BTW ...

The episode is bloody and several already dead characters keep appearing in various sequences.

Chad Coleman (Tyrese) puts in a brilliant performance.

Is the Walking Dead a replay of Omega Man? Only on a bigger time line.

No. We found out at the end of Season 1 when the group went to Atlanta and the CDC that although the CDC knew what was causing the zombies, they didn't know what germ, virus, prion, or microbe caused it or who released it. The CDC in Atlanta didn't have a cure.

I'm not sure what the graphic novels (comic books) have revealed but there has never been an answer to the plague of zombies in it either.

The "Omega Man" finds a cure. That plot goes back to Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend" and has also been know as "The Last Man on Earth". . . In Matheson's story, there is a cure. While in Robert Kirkman's THE WALKING DEAD (art by Tony Moore) there has never been a cure and we are not watching the "last men" but something else. the graphic novels go on at least for another two years in the storyline as far as I can tell.

Last night's episode was 531 days since Rick Grimes was shot and put in the hospital. That's not quite 18 months since episode 1.

There is this weird rumor about Nagin and a baseball bat named Lucille and Norman Redus.

Season 5, Episode 10: THEM

A rather scary episode on the road to Washington DC.

Lots of characters dealing with loss. . .

THEM is the episode on TV that has a scene directly from the books. Rock gives his little speech about his father in WW2 and the parallel with the current dilemma:

“Every day he woke up, told himself, ‘Rest in peace, now get up and go to war,’” Rick explains to his soggy, downtrodden group inside the barn. “Then after a few years of pretending he was dead, he made it out alive. That’s the trick of it, I think. We do what we need to do and then we get to live. But no matter what we find in D.C. I know we’ll be okay. Because this is how we survive. We tell ourselves that we are the walking dead.”

That's a significant point to understand the entire show.

Season 5 Episode 11: The Distance.

Getting to know the stranger who has suddenly shown up to help.

Watch the interaction between Rick and Michonne and all the others. Spectacular acting in this episode.

Season 5 Episode 12: titled: "REMEMBER"

A very quiet and subtly dramatic episode. Quite Subversive.
