I must say that this news story took me by surprise. I had always though of Bruce Jenner as such a total stud. We'er talking about a man's man. A god amongst men. And now we're told he's going to have it all cut off and become a women. What's the world coming to?

🤷😵‍💫🙃

I never heard of him before until I saw him on TV on the keeping up with the Kardashians show like a year ago. I thought he looked unusually feminine when I saw him. I mean I thought he looked like a lesbian or a gay bottom guy. Especially his face and eyebrows. They look very feminine. It was weird to me he has a wife and children.

I don't know how you can view him as masculine. But then again people think russian midgets like Putin are masculine. It's a crazy world.

At one time, I emphatically agreed with your sentiment, I was so sick of seeing the same old TRASH that held the interest of the horribly skewed U.S. news media... I nearly went bonkers insane over the way U.S. news media was nine tenths bullshit gossip about rich and famous people (e.g. Princess Diana, O.J. Simpson, anything Kardashian, etc.), and one tenth under-reported and misunderstood issues (e.g. some guys some where hard to pronounce are killing other guys... some L.A. cop gone crazy...) Remember how every time a hand grenade went off in "The Former Yugoslav Republic" the news media fawned over it, fluttered about it, FLAILED about it... and so so so conspicuously IGNORED nearly one million people murdered in Ruanda?

But I eventually came around, it is pointless to try to resist it, may as well go along with the heard of sheep, knowing any "real news" does NOT make me happy, neither does knowing any stupid gossip news about rich and famous people, but at least you can have conversations with other people when you go to work if you at least pick up a little bit about Bruce Jenner etc.

You are mixing up two presidents (Mr. Botox and the midget). Though I can't blame you, I am not sure which one of them is the president myself :-p.

PS. Medvedev is the short one.

PPS. Sorry. I think I am going too much into dark side of political commentary

I used to have a roommate who watched every episode of "Keeping up with the Kardashians." I hated the show. The interview with Bruce Jenner gave him the chance to tell his own story. At 30 minutes into the interview, my husband 'D' commented "this is your story." He's read many of my older posts here and we've discussed my past and transition.

There was a time when I, like many others, was tired of hearing about Bruce. The recent wacko media attention made it worse. I feel differently now, though, and reactions to the interview from transgender advocates are very positive. The trans* community trails far behind the gay community in understanding, acceptance and civil rights. There is a chance that Bruce's story, and perhaps later trans* advocacy by 'her', will help change that. I am cautiously optimistic.

Everyone in the USA now knows a person who has gone or is going through the transition from Male to Female.

Just the knowledge of that has to be good.

I agree, Dave.

It's strange, but before hearing the Jenner-Sawyer interview I never felt that I was part of the 'trans community*.' From the beginning of my journey, I felt no need for a support group. I did well on my own, although a few people here were there to offer encouragement when I did need it. I've always wanted to be an advocate for trans* folks. My need to hold a job held me back. The interview changed my outlook and I now feel I am part of the transgender community. Go figure! In addition, now that I plan to work with remote clients from home, I have the freedom to explore advocacy. I am beginning to do that.

On the one hand I can't stand her (maybe more of a personal thing with me) but I also can't help noticing that she first wanted to make the change way back in 1972 at about the time this society started embarking on its major push backwards as far as homophobia was concerned. Forty plus years has been such a very, very long time in the wilderness for so many. Besides ultimately it is none of our damn business anyway.

I admire his courage. But I wonder why In the interview he prefered be called as he instead of she? I guess It´s because the pronouns doesn´t matter but how you´re feeling inside does?

dev,

You make a great point about the time when Bruce first tried to transition.

I agree, in general, that someone's gender identity or gender expression is none of our business. With Bruce, though, he chose to sha

freddyde,

In the interview, Bruce noted that because he was still going by the (masculine) name 'Bruce,' it made sense to continue to use masculine pronouns. When he announces his new female name, I expect 'he' will become 'she.' He did refer to his female identity as 'her.'

From my point of view, how you feel inside is more important than pronouns. Pronouns still matter, a lot.
