Emphysema diagnosis
My Christmas present was a trip to the ER for a really bad bout of choking/coughing/asthma attack. Chest X-ray showed emphysema Stage 2 with permanent lung damage. Since I have never smoked, it is a bit of a shock. Turns out that what my doctor thought was asthma is much more serious than either of us knew. I am guessing that exposure to air pollution when younger and industrial chemicals as an adult may be the root cause.
Stage 2 emphysema has a life expectancy of 80% living more than 4-years. Some sources say there is no predicting life expectancy numbers. D'oh! I am short of breath all the time and cannot draw a big breath without pain and triggering a coughing spasm. It is the chest tightness that a year ago had my physician sending me to hospital for a cardiac exam. But it is not my heart - it is my lungs that are failing. Whoopee. Naturally, I am not thrilled about this as it is a slow death sentence and a nasty way to go.
Pray for me!

You have my every sympathy. Watching what my dad goes through with advanced stage emphysema scares hell out of me, especially considering I smoked for 42 years before finally quitting. It is not fun. Breathe well, if possible, my friend.

Thanks Kristoff,
According to my research, depression and anxiety are also a consideration. Well guess what? I am depressed.
Pray for me.

Re: Emphysema diagnosis
I have been passing bad times too. My father Is in the hospital. He´s diabetic, his health state is deteriorated and will have his one remarning foot amputated. When I read your post I realised that I´m not the only want who is suffering. Many people around to us have serious problems and we should be supporting to each other. When a friend that is far away is in need or problems the least that I can do is encourage him and praying for him.
So I wish you all the best, and dont lose hope, Trust in God!!!! .
A good treatment can rise even longer your life expectancy.
Don´t think that all is over. Don´t feel depressed
In spite of your health state I´m sure There is much more to do In your Life!!

Re: Emphysema diagnosis
This is very sad news. My Dad had emphysema and it contributed to his death. It is also linked to a genetic condition and my brother has just bee diagnosed with it, so it is all a bit scary. My sympathy to you ad I wish you well. There was something on TV recently about a UK surgeon that placed coils in the lungs of a chronic patient and his breathing became more or less normal.
I Googled this http://thorax.bmj.com/content/early/201 ... 05221.full
There is some hope and you need to maybe do some research to be au fait with what is out there as sometimes doctors are unaware of developments.

Re: Emphysema diagnosis
Oxygen therapy helps my Dad, who was a long-time smoker. My Mom just started it, to help with her low platelet count (she's also on chemo-drugs).
It is in use in many countries, but seldom heard of in the USA (its really cheap/inexpensive). Money-motivated US medicine does not appreciate inexpensive therapies.
I use it with great results for failing joints.
The 'at home' therapy is 35% Food-grade Hydrogen Peroxide (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J0D ... UTF8&psc=1)in distilled or purified water. A few drops in 6-8 Oz, gradually increasing to about 30 drops. 2-3 times a day; 1 hour before, or 3 hours after eating. NEVER use chlorinated water, even if it has 'sat out' or 'aired out' (explosive/chemical reaction can occur). You can mix it with juices and teas, but not milk (often prescribed with Aloe juice). Moderate alcohol use doesn't effect it, but you can get a bloated stomach (gas) by mixing the two (treat it like meals; 1-hr before/3-hrs after). Never keep it tightly sealed, even in the refrigerator.
You 'get worse' before you get better. When I first started, I had differing bouts of diarrhea and gas for a few days while my system was 'adjusting' to it; but after about 10 days, I started feeling so much better. I use a maintenance dose of 18-drops in a 16 Oz bottle of purified water; half mid-morning, half-mid-afternoon.
35% H2O2 is available through Amazon.com in various sizes. I order 1 gallon and divide it between my siblings and parents in 1-Oz dropper bottles (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Y8 ... XVF3IDW0IU). I keep the unused portion in the freezer (plastic jug). A 1-Oz dropper bottle lasts a couple of weeks.
Do internet search for oxygen therapy / H2O2 therapy / 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide - see millions of postings and articles.

Re: Emphysema diagnosis
Cautionary note;
Anyone considering H2O2 therapies should know that there are some drugs that react to a flood of oxygen into their body. Some drugs are designed to work in a anaerobic environment (depends upon a lack of oxygen). Know your drugs, and plan H2O2 usage around them; just like eating around doses/treatments.
You can also absorb H2O2 therapy by bathing in H2O2-rich bathwater (page 28 of

Re: Emphysema diagnosis
Please give me more detail on H2O2 bathing. We have a large 450+gallon outdoor hot tub and try to use it every day weather permitting.

Re: Emphysema diagnosis
Bathing in H2O2 rich water does allow you to absorb oxygen through your skin (your biggest organ), but not as much or as fast as drinking water or juice mixed with H2O2. When your lungs can't operate at full capacity, drinking the H2O2 therapy makes use of your digestive tract to 'force' additional oxygen into your bloodstream. The added bonus of H2O2 ingestion is that it also helps to eliminate bacterium's and diseases on the way through.
You must not use chlorinated water in the tub {includes hot tubs} (shower methods are a little different, because you can step out of the stream). If you are on a municipal water supply, you will need to replace the hot tub water with purified water, and maintain the PH balance with salts, and then purify with H2O2.
90% of all US water service is chlorinated/brominated. Some even use pure bleach, just like you would in the washing machine. No matter how long it has been exposed to the air, you can get a reaction mixing chlorinated water with H2O2. If you are on your own well like me, you still should check for mineral and protein content before using H2O2. H2O2 is used to kill pathogens, but you can't simply 'pour' it into your well or hot tub. Hot water tanks can explode under pressure, and H2O2 is flammable at high concentrations.
The formula for bathing in H2O2-rich bathwater is on page 28 (chapter 9) & pages 51-57 (Chapter14) of
I'm not trying to 'help' the lady earn a living. I'm more concerned about listing/posting something that may bring heat to the EA. If you want to private message (http://forums.eunuch.org/sendmessage.ph ... er&u=25896)me, that's a bit different.
There are other books on the subject that I do not own, and you may find better versed. The information contained in her book is valuable because it is not a 'high-brow' scientific text. It may come across as a tad 'folksy', to some, but I think it's written for the average consumer (even with a few typo-ohs!). The author knows her subject well and has an extensive bibliography of research in the book to back up her information, not to mention her own personal experience using Hydrogen peroxide for many years.
She also posts do's and don'ts, safety and practical uses -- that others leave out. That is the another reason I recommend her book over others.
Buy the book, so you can read it, and refer to it.
Another note about oxygen absorption;
If your body is too acidic, it is more anaerobic (low oxygen). The more alkaline you are, the better your cells absorb oxygen. Alkalinity increases the oxygen in your body, while acidosis decreases it. Having a high-acid system, or acidosis, is a contributing factor to many illnesses and diseases (from sore joints to cancers).
When it comes to disease, this is an important relationship to remember.
This is diet maintenance. Changing to a diet that is alkaline rather than acid-producing is critical to maintaining your health. Any food that contains more protein and phosphorus - compared to magnesium, potassium, and calcium will be acidic. But, just because a food is acidic in nature does not automatically mean it will produce acid in your body. The typical American diet consists of processed food, a lot of grains, tons of sugar, daily-dairy, and poor quality meat, and is the main culprit of metabolic acidosis (foods that 'convert' to acid).
Adding more raw leafy green vegetables to your diet will alkalize your bloodstream. So will green smoothies, and super-foods like chlorella (http://www.nuts.com/cookingbaking/powde ... w|chlorell a|pmt|be) and spirulina (http://www.vitacost.com/vitacost-spirul ... gae-powder) powders (sea micro-organisms).
Keeping your body alkaline keeps you 'primed' for oxygen when you can get it . . .

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_compound) with the formula H
2O
2. It is the simplest peroxide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peroxide) (a compound with an oxygen-oxygen single bond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_bond)) and in its pure form is a colorless liquid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid), slightly more viscous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscosity) than water (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water). For safety reasons it is normally used as an aqueous solution, also colorless. Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxidizer)and is used as a bleaching (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach) agent and disinfectant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disinfectant). Concentrated hydrogen peroxide, or 'high-test peroxide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-test_peroxide)' is areactive oxygen species (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactive_oxygen_species) and has been used as a propellant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propellant) in rocketry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket).
Its great for cuts or turning your hair blond but I would not want to drink it.
