Well, guys and gals, I guess I spoke too soon.
I got a copy of the contract last night, and reviewing it I discovered a clause that asked me to declare that my submission had never been published before. I emailed them immediately and explained that the book WAS published, in 2000, but the publisher had gone out of business three months after the book was in print. Well, the publisher has a policy that it will not produce books that were previously published, so the deal is off. Needless to say I am somewhat pissed off right now.
I am negotiating with another publisher, 1stBooks, who want to do the job. The only difference is that this one is a publish for a fee company, which was what the original one was. I haven't decided yet what I am going to do, but one way or the other it will be made available to EA folks. I am really passionate about this story, I think it has a real message that should be told. There is no mention of castration or eunuchs in it, but it is, as my wife had told me, "disturbing, and so horribly true!"
Incidentally, the title of the book, and I absolutely refuse to change it, is "Blood Brothers."
If I do not have a contract before the new year, and maybe even if I do, I will be posting it in its entirety here on EA, assuming of course that I can do so, considering that there is no mention of castration or eunuchism.
