Guardians of the Galaxy

Post by Dave (imported) »

Guardians Of The Galaxy is a movie set in the Marvel Universe that you haven't seen (this ain't The Avengers)

There's five Guardians -

Peter Quill AKA Starlord (he insists that is his nickname)

A green woman who's a trained fighter

A big dude, really big, huge, gargantuan. Green, covered with tattoos, runic tattoos.

Groot - a sentient plant, a tree sort of. He's vocabulistically deprived. Disco dances, too.

Rocket, the misbegotten result of illegal genetic experimentation on lower animals - he started out as a raccoon , now he makes bombs bombs big enough to destroy minor moons.

Rocket has issues.

Starlord has issues but you can see his issues with a black light.

Rocket has real psychological problems.

Then there's the villains. The one that counts wants an "infinity stone" that will give him the power to destroy the universe of all who aren't to his liking. He's purple, pouty and a giant bore, mostly. That's what villains are made of.

It's delightfully escapist fun, lots of action, lots of all sorts of weird space things, no one understands Earth colloquialisms which is fun.

Just sit back and let it wash over you. Enjoy the craziness and the story.

Don't miss the beginning, it has some meaning to the story.

I did watch this four times in the 3 day rental.

And it was fun. Parts of it are goofy fun but it started out life as a comic book.

Now to a point about the MARVEL UNIVERSE.

There are six INFINITY STONES (objects of power wrought from the six singularities that existed at the time of the Big Bang)

The "Tesseract" appeared in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. It was the source of power for the WW2 Cobra Corps and in THE AVENGERS, was the power that returned LOKI and THOR to ASGARD.

LOKI's Scepter in THE AVENGERS is one of the infinity stones.

The AETHER in THOR: THE DARK WORLD is one of the stones.

The ORB containing a Purple Stone of power in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is another of the INFINITY STONES.

There is a Gauntlet in ODIN's Vault - it is the INFINITY GAUNTLET and is an object of power that can hold all six stones. This was seen in the movie THOR. - - - - - THANOS covets the stones and the gauntlet.

THANOS has already shown up in the first AVENGERS Movie in the final teaser scenes at the end of the movie.

Another hint that was done was that the TESSERACT was deposited with Taneleer Tivan, aka THE COLLECTOR. Who shows up in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. He had two stones of power (Starlord castrated him, so to speak)

And that is my nerdgasm for the day.

Honest, I only have one a day, wink, wink, wink. . .

I felt Like I was, when I saw the first Star Wars, I was kid again. Now I must admit I still have those Jackson Pollock issues Starlord has. nc
