I have a friend who has been allergic to about everything all his life. He developed cancer, beat it with chemo and now says that the allergies have gone away.
Anyone have anything similar happen?

Re: Cancer treatment and allergies
Yes, I have some very very odd allergies...
I AM allergic to cats, but if I keep a cat (as I now do) the allergy goes away completely.
I AM allergic to horses, yet, when I keep a horse or interact with them daily, the allergy goes away completely.
I cannot explain it, I just know that it is. When I am away from cats or horses for a while, I get extremely sensitive about the animals, I will be congested and nearly blinded by my swollen eyelids just from being on the sidewalk and a horse drawn cart passing on the street, same for cats. Yet if I keep the animals around (for now I only have a cat), and gradually inure myself to them, now I can rub my face in my cat's fur and not have even the slightest reaction. WEIRD I know, but that is just the way it is.

What kind of cancer did he have (in the context of this forum, was it testicular?). Do you know what chemo he had?

Re: Cancer treatment and allergies
It's weird, yes, but desensitization to allergens happens. This is the operating principle for allergy shots, too. What happens is that you start producing antibodies of the IgG class that block attachments of the IgE class that trigger the allergic response. Flood your bloodstream with IgG, and the IgE will never find its target, set off mast cells, dump histamine into your blood, and cause all the swelling and sneezing.
