I spent some rental money and watched this tonight.
It was well worth the price of the rental. Five out of five stars.
A rather good story compared to "X-Men: First Class" (which I thought was mediocre) and it sheds the accumulated story-telling baggage from the previous trilogy. I liked it. It is a complex story in that it has a form of time travel. Great action sequences.
This is a "reset" or a "re-launch" of Marvel's X-Men universe. It is the sequel to X-Men: First Class.
This story is from about 1980 and it is set in 1973 (the end of the Vietnam War) and roughly 2020 or so (about 50 years in the future).
By that time the Sentinels have almost wiped out mutants and any human who will give birth to a mutant. IT's a genetic thing.
The core of Professor Xavier, Magneto, and a half dozen other mutants keep escaping the Sentinels by sending mental warnings back in time to the mind of one character. However, time is running out for them. The Sentinels have figured out what they are doing.
So they send Wolverine back 50 years because he can heal. Not the most lovable character for the job.
And therein lies a story of how they stop the formation of the Sentinel army and prevent their own extinction with half of humanity.
Considering that this story was written four years before Zemekis's "Back to the Future" this version of time travel works if you don't look too closely. However, it is a good action movie with a rather wild plot. It doesn't lack for eye-candy in the form of effects and fights and story either.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future Past
Funny you should talk about this movie tonight, My room mate bought it and we watched tonight in 3D which is a must. Dave is correct it has a great story line and lots of action and even one of our favorite presidents, I am referring to Richard (tricky Dicky - I am not a crook) Nixon. It was a good flick and with this like Star Trek they can go anywhere. Lets face it this is a money cow and in the last movie they killed off just about everybody, so with this relaunch they can bring all those characters back and do it again. WOOT WOOT.
