No. It requires a prescription.
You can obtain anti-androgens through on-line pharmacies without prescriptions.

In California they have passed a law that says an insurance company has to cover anything for transgender patients that they would for cisgender patients, as long as it is medically necessary. Since my HMO covers androgen blockers for things like enlarged prostates and cancer, they are also required to cover it for gender dysphoria. The trick, of course, will be to convince them that I actually have gender dysphoria so the diagnosis is officially in my file. I just changed to a new primary care doctor who has a reputation for being an LGBT ally and being open minded about alternative lifestyles, but I haven't been in to see her yet. Wish me luck.
If they prescribe the medicine then all I need to worry about is the $10 copay for a month's supply.

Please be aware that taking high levels of herbs can be very dangerous and the amount needed to have an effect can easily get into that danger zone. Don't take this as medical advice but you would probably save a ot of money and be safer to just buy the real stuff online at somewhere like www.alldaychemist.com.

Needless to be at castration level to be impotent, the lower your T level will be, the stronger the side effects will be. As usual, you milage may vary. Depending on health, age, natural T level and testicles sizes you may need more or less.
How long did it take for its effects to show up, and how do you know it's as effective as finasteride? Have you gotten testosterone tests done? I'm very interested in this. I just checked my local health food store and they have saw palmetto.

Duly noted. It's definitely something I'll approach with care, but do you know of any studies that have demonstrated that the amount you'd need to produce an effect would be dangerous with saw palmetto?

I think that JessicaN is right; there are better ways to do this. Too much pharma-plus-fiber -not to mention the liquorice already mentioned- and you'd be spending your day squittering your bowels out, without any fun at all?

You must remember that as with all drugs the effects will very, but with herbs it will very greatly.

If you REALLY want to shut down DHT, buy generic dutusteride. It works way better than finasteride as it shuts down two of the 5HTP pathways versus one. It is about 80-85% effective with one mg a day. Beware though that any of these products that shut down DHT production can have long term side effects. http://www.alldaychemist.com/veltam-plus.html

Is it over the counter?
