Fuzhou woman cuts off husband's penis and flushes it down the toilet

It's happened again. A woman in Fuzhou reportedly cut off her 35-year-old husband's penis and flushed it down the toilet yesterday, as she suspected that he had an affair with another woman. The man survived the traumatic event and has been taken to hospital for treatment, Sina News reports.

According to an insider, the unidentified husband came home drunk at around 3:00 a.m., after which, his wife took out a pair of scissors, cut off his pecker and flushed it down the toilet.

The insider also revealed that the wife did so because she suspected her husband was fraternizing with another woman on the side.

As soon as the husband's father found out, he called the police. When the victim arrived at the hospital, doctors discovered that nearly nothing remained of his penis. They told him that even if it was recovered, it probably wouldn't function properly.

The woman is being held by the police. She could face up to 10 years in prison for intentional injury, according to a lawyer.

In April, a woman in Shanghai was sentenced to three years in prison after she'd likewise cut off her husband's manhood with a pair of scissors because of a suspected affair. In February, a woman in Shanghai's Minhang district cut off her husband's penis in his sleep because she thought he was going to break up with her.

Does it strike anyone else as being remarkable that so many men survive attacks like this? Are we overestimating the risk in hacking off an unwanted penis? (And no, I'm definitely NOT recommending DIY penectomies! I was just struck by how many such attacks have been reported here and now few of them resulted in death.)

I'm also struck by how light the sentence for this kind of attack seems to be in Asian countries compared to here in the USA. For three years, I imagine a goodly number of women would figure it would be worth it. Catherine Kieu got a whole lot longer sentence.

People have been making eunuchs for thousands of years, probably with even cruder tools than a modern pair of scissors. While I'm sure the death rate in antiquity was non-negligible, most of them must have survived. Otherwise we wouldn't read about eunuchs in the history of so many societies. I'd guess that the "natural" death rate from a penectomy without benefit of modern medicine is probably less than 1 in 4, and maybe a good deal better than that. That's just death though, and doesn't consider the likelihood of hideous scarring, UT complications, chronic pain, and other damage from an amateur job.

Come to think of it, a pair of scissors might have been safer than a butcher knife (a la Loreena Bobbit) because it would tend to crush small blood vessels instead of cutting them off cleanly.

Regarding sentencing, Bobbitt got off free. Catherine Kieu was sentenced harshly because hers was so premeditated and malicious. She laid a trap for the guy including poisoning him, tied him up, waited for him to be specifically aware of the painful torture, specifically ground up his penis to ensure it could never be re-attached. Bobbitt and these other women seem to have been temporarily enraged -- guy comes home drunk and presumably just cheated, so they wait for him to pass out and cut it off and impulsively throw it way (out car window, into river, down toilet). Still really bad, but a bit down the scale in terms of premeditation and maliciousness. It is like manslaughter versus murder versus serial killer -- all are killers but our sentencing has graduated scale.

Regarding survivability, I would say the opposite -- we on EA tend to underestimate the seriousness of the injury we're contemplating. Even the smallest endowed of us, the penis is as large as a finger. In my case it is probably as much flesh as all my fingers. Cock and balls together for most guys is as much flesh as a whole hand. We happily think of hacking off our genitals, but in perspective imagine having fetish for chopping your hand off! (Some people have that by the way!).

People can survive having hands cut off, and they can survive having their cocks cut off. However, in both cases there will be severe blood loss. The one thing that helps with penis amputation is that in flaccid state the blood flow is reduced. That probably works fine as protection for those who are asleep or scared when they are penectomized; however, for those of use with a fetish for it, even a slight erection would cause disastrous blood loss.

I have cut my penis a couple times, and pierced it several more. Sometimes, as I got an erection the blood would splurt out literally in gushes across the room just like a horror movie. Pools of blood that I watched coagulate on the bathroom floor. it was shocking. Luckily for me I didn't cut penis off so I could control the bleeding by squeezing the base of shaft, but if I had been cut flush with pubic bone there would have been no stopping it.
