Pele it looks like is taking a nap, my neighbor and her friend went to the volcano but there was not much to see. By the time I will be up to the trip it will be over.

One of the locals said, this has happened before and right after Pele will sleep for a while so we shall see, it just might be that she goes silent for a year or two or 10 or 50 years or longer.

Then again

There can be consolation prizes. As meager as they are, some are amazing.

Quite by chance the Astronomy Picture of the Day posted this breathtaking view from another Hawaiian volcano.

Earthquakes on Hawaii volcano could signal new eruption

HONOLULU (AP) — A series of earthquakes and shifting ground on the slopes of Kilauea have scientists wondering what will happen next at one of the world's most active volcanos.

A lake of lava near the summit of Kilauea on Hawaii's Big Island had risen to a record-high level after a recent explosion. But in the past few days, the pool of molten rock began sinking, and the surface of the lava lake fell nearly 500 feet.

Meanwhile, a rash of earthquakes rattled the volcano with as many as 20 to 25 quakes per hour, and scientists' tilt meters detected that the ground was deforming.

"Clearly the lava, by dropping out of sight, it has to be going somewhere," said Steven Brantley, deputy scientist in charge of Hawaiian Volcano Observatory of the U.S. Geological Survey.

One possibility is that a new lava eruption could break through the surface of the mountain, Brantley said. . . . .

The volcano I live on is so honeycombed it could put up anywhere, 🆘 However they think its heading southwest from the main vent which means its heading well away from me. Remember the last flow was heading north east. This one looks to be going over the same area it did when it flowed back in the 80's. This would be a good thing because nothing is there, its already destroyed that area. 🙏

RiverI have been away from the site for a while - what happened?

Glad your back Mac, I had a kidney stone that they blasted apart in Honolulu, I am much better, still a bit sore but much better, I would not recommend a kidney stone to anybody, they hurt like hell. As for the volcano its really strange, a couple weeks ago it was filling up the main crater, I was going to go see it but the ER won that round, now its dropped over 150 there have been lots of earthquakes and the tilt is to the southwest which is the opposite direction it was heading last December. This is a good thing because there is nothing left in its path to the ocean on this route as it wiped out everything back in the 80's and 90's. We are back to a wait and see. All I can say is its great living on a volcano, every days something new.

Again glad your back,

The live volcano is so dead they have not reported on it all week. I guess Pele has gone back to sleep.

What the hell is it with kidney stones?

Actually, drinking lots of water is recommended for avoiding them. However, drinking tea or cola drinks can increase the chance of getting them, as can eating chocolate and peanuts. Kids having too many snacks, maybe?

What is funny is I have cut my tea, soda, chocolate and peanut consumption by about 80% sense moving here a year ago.

All I know is this, having had a disk collapse in my neck several years ago giving me a migraine and left arm that was numb for the 6 weeks before surgery I thought that was a 10 I was wrong, it was at best an 8 maybe 7. Kidney stones are a 10 or on my old scale of 1 to 10 it was a 13 or maybe 14.

I talked to the doc and he said, drink more water. ugh, the one advantage we have here is our water is rain water, so very soft without all the harsh iron etc that you find normally in water. What is curious is that after being here for a year and totally changing my diet, drinking water like crazy why now? The doc said it could be all the water I drink finally flushed it out. I go in for an ultra sound to make sure the kidney is back to normal, it does still hurt as well as where that stone stopped. My energy is still way down from normal but again the doc said, it will take time to get back to my normal daily routine.

I would not recommend getting a kidney stone, it has been said by women that it is worse than having a baby.

Worst pain I have ever had and hope to never have it again, ever.
