Tax payer money is being used to break up the lava that flowed into the transfer station, AKA were we take our trash. It flowed into one driveway, the cost is a fraction of the cost to rebuild so spending the money to fix it is well worth it, and nobody here is complaining. The power station near Pahoa was not effected in any way by this flow of lava, wrong direction.
Pu'u' O'o' is doing its thing back at the start, its also filling in the blanks from the start down the mountain. It has been so quiet the last couple weeks most people have forgotten all about it. I am sure at some point it will start again and it may not even be in the direction it was heading, it could start in a whole new direction or it could stop for a hundred years, its just that simple.

Emission rates of sulfur dioxide were measured at 3,700 tonnes/day on February 9, today its down to 200 tonnes, even the activity up at the crater is down, maybe, just maybe Pele is going to take some time off and rest. A century or so would be nice.

They sure were, those would be from a cone volcano not like the shield volcano's we have, ours just kind of oozes out.
BTW this last flow has for the hype has ended. its still active but not by much and its back up near the vent.
We here in the PUNA district are hoping that Pele just decides to go to sleep for a while, a century or so would not be unwelcome.

A drastically different volcano. Even in the pictures you see it.
The tower of lava blown straight up in the air (even from the distance of the camera) is frightening. Kilauea is gentle by comparison.
I'm not saying you should but there are photographs of the slow moving lava in Puna that are take from tens of feet and they inspire awe but not eye-popping fear.
This volcano in South America inspires fear from a distance of miles away. And the lava from it os moving fast and hot more near water than Hawaiian lava which is thick and slow. Not that any lava is "safe" because 2000 degrees is still frighteningly hot.

yep for sure, like we say here, when Pele is moving fast a snail can out race it. It does however allow science to look at it up close and personal, these people that do this walk right up to the flowing edge to take samples.

Volcano Alert Downgraded From Warning To Watch
This was the headline last week, for the most part it has stopped. I guess Pele has decided we can live here a bit longer.
This weekend the final daily flight over the lava flow was taken, no longer will we get the daily show, so sad. We wish Jon the best.

NO Pele will not, because she has moved on as it were.
For those of you who don't know, there is this movement by a few who believe that they live in an occupied country. They wish to return to the old ways, to restore the Kingdom of Hawai'i, with there royal court where the royals own ALL the land and the rest of the people will just be renters at the whim of the king. Yes we have nut jobs here too and even actors love to get in the limelight with there picture and everything because of a cause.
