Still stalled at .6 miles from the market.

This is a good thing with a little luck this too might pass, well to the north.

NBC News reports the lava is on the move again.

They must have been hard up for news.

Apparently same direction.

At the road and market / gas station complex. Or is that market / gas station simple? or maybe simplex?

Moi 🚬

Where are the mobile, geothermal power stations?

After Thought

I wonder 💡

Is there a red/orange Lava luminescent glow at night?

Yes moved about 10 yards, the estimate from the locals is, this will be going on for the next 25 to 30 years.

YES same direction, its nothing special, its a shopping center with the market being the biggest store, just like anyplace in the mainland - funny how they do that.

Mobile? are you nuts??? there is a geothermal power plant just south of the flow, working quite nice too.

I wonder[/SIZE]

The lava has slowed and is sluggish, its now about 650 yards from the market and .5 miles from the road.

My roommate and I took the gravel road, Railroad road, last week, its a 20 mph road with lots of dust. The people who live in both neighborhoods that this road passes through are bitching about the traffic. Go figure.

Its another beautiful day here on the most active volcano in the world, so why live here you ask? Because its one of the most alive places I have ever lived, this island has a heart beat, the pace of life here is relaxed, its a 55 mph highway where most people drive 40, why hurry, relax and enjoy life, hear the drums beat, hear Pele talking to you.

One of the sayings I here which when I first got here ticked me off was "it is what it is" when you except that, life is good because there is little you can do to change it.

I feel 10 years younger sense moving here, my diet has totally changed for one eat local and eat what the locals eat. A lot more fish, and very little beef. I think I have worn long pants 2 or 3 times in the last year mostly because of working outside and needed the protection not because it was to cold.

So for the many of you who have asked what is different about living here I can only say this, Hawaii is the most remote place on earth, we live on a volcano that is alive and life giving. This is the most incredible place I have ever been, I will never live anyplace else.

Recent Kilauea Status Reports, Updates, and Information Releases

HAWAIIAN VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE

U.S. Geological Survey

Sunday, January 11, 2015 8:03 AM HST (Sunday, January 11, 2015 18:03 UTC)

Current Volcano Alert Level: WARNING

Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Activity Summary: Kīlauea Volcano continues to erupt at its summit and within its East Rift Zone. In the East Rift Zone, the tip of the June 27th lava flow remained stalled; however, active surface breakouts up slope of the front continued. A narrow flow lobe about 2.5 km (1.6 mi) upslope of Pahoa Marketplace continued to advance toward the north-northeast. This morning, Civil Defense reported that this lobe has advanced about 80 m (90 yds) since yesterday. Very weak inflationary ground tilt was recorded over the past day at the summit and at Puʻu ʻŌʻō.

What does it all mean 🤷

Ask RiverLava. :D

I believe he does has to take a hike to toast his marshmallows over hot lava.

Isn't it worth doing once? Taking a seflie of course.

Kilauea and Pu'u 'O'o have not stopped erupting. It's been erupting for something like 30 years now.

Might not stop until it becomes a new Pacific Continent in a few hundred thousand years.

The proper question is "where is the lava going now?"

it is also a shield volcano meaning that when you look down at it it looks like a shield not a cone. It has several craters that are active, Pu'u 'O'o is the most active of them all and like Dave said, its been flowing for 30 plus years, he is also correct in that the question should be "where is the lava going to flow" and the answer is somewhere down slop from the crater.

So Moi, go to google earth and look at the altitude of the Pu'u 'O'o vent and it can flow anywhere lower then that.

As for the current flow, its stalled on the front but there are breakouts up slope, this is a common theme and one that is sure to be repeated.

It has done several things, its stopped the big supermarket from being built at least for a while, its stopped the big roundabout that was going to be built, it has turned our little town back to that little sleepy town that we all love, so much for progress, the other thing its done is chase all the people who don't want to live here back to the Main Land and good bye to them, real estates prices have dropped its a buyers market, lenders are lending insurance companies are insuring, life it wonderful.

So is the lava a bad thing? NO it was never a bad thing - its never a bad thing when mother earth is building, creating new real estate.

Is it inconvenient? Yes we now need to go into Kauai or Hilo to buy our food, other then that its the same but less crowded which those of us who have stayed think its a good thing.

The longer I live here the better it gets, it gets better in ways that I can not explain other then its living in one of the most beautiful places on earth and the people here take the time to notice.
