Pele is awake
Pele the goddess of Kilauea an active Volcano on the big island of Hawaii is awake.
For those of you who have been following this story yes its on the move, and its heading for the little town of Pahoa which serves many communities in the area including the one I live in. If you have been following the news its heading for hwy 130. So what does this mean? it is the main road out of the area, or should I say the only road out of the area. Now there is the coast road but much of it is one lane so we will have another way out if Pele decides to consume Pahoa.
There is a great web site called Big Island Video News that gives a daily of how fast and where the lava is, also a great must see meeting with this gal that nails it, you will know the one I am talking about a Hawaiian woman with a blue dress.
Now as for me, the lava is going in a north, northeast direction I live well south of there so I am not in danger of having the lava flow over me although if the flow goes over 130 above 137 it will make getting in and out of the area very hard. It is not time yet to pack in supplies or get the batteries for the solar panels and go totally off the grid, but in a few weeks this might be an option.
I know I have been making light of the situation however it is very serious and real, I will do what I need to do to stay safe, remember that this volcano has been erupting for 31 years and people still build houses and live here. Kilauea is in fact the most active volcano in the world the good thing is that she moves slow and the lava flows out not like an explosion but oozes out.
So to all my friends on the main land and around the world I am safe the weather is great, the view is fantastic, (I am taking care of a friends house, actually there dogs and cats) and from the porch on a clear day you can see Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa clouds and fog usually prevent that view.
This is a most incredible island, it is truly alive and this has been a fun filled summer for sure.

If it is liquid enough and you can get hold of space shuttle thermal insulation tiles, you can tryLosethem (imported) wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2014 5:57 pm Remember, surf in the ocean not on the lava flows.

Anyone, what is the friction coefficient for lava over silicon carbide?
Ok. Only joking.

Re: Pele is awake
The latest word today, it is heading in one of two places, both will cause a major problem for us, you see there is only one main road (two lanes both directions) in and out of the PUNA district, this lava flow is heading for that road and if it crosses it, we might loose the market, gas station, Longs drug, Burger King then again it could go a little north of that and we loose the fire station and police department.
At any rate if it crosses the highway we have a problem, if it continues to the ocean we have an even bigger problem because the only other road out of this area is a one lane sometimes two lane road around the shore, that would be our only other way in and out, and we thought the Hurricane was bad leaving us without power for 10 days, this will leave us stranded.
I will keep you all posted as to the joys of living in the most beautiful place in the world. It just has a couple drawbacks.

Re: Pele is awake
OMG I know and I have been here sense Feb and I have eaten there once. It was two days after the Hurricane I had left for church at 8am, I set up the place and after I got back home I packed up everything and headed out the door to a friends house it was noon, little did I know you can't get there from anywhere so after driving for a couple hours I was back in the little town of Pahoa, tired and hungry and in bad need to use the loo, so Burger King. After taking care of business I was standing in line when this guy comes in and wanted to use the Loo, there were several people in line, so he went into the women's Loo, when you gotta go you gotta go. Well this guy in line for the mens room started hollering "PAHOA MAN IN THE WOMENS BATHROOM" which got everybody attention, we all started laughing as he kept hollering " PAHOA MAN IN THE WOMENS BATHROOM" and when the guy came out we all cheered him. This made the guy hollering even madder, so we gave the guilty party a high five and shook his hand, by this time the guy who had been hollering was so pissed he was ready to fight everybody.
The moral of this story is when you gotta go and your tired and hungry, Try Burger King.

Well today Pele made a right turn its now heading back right for the little town that serves this area, then across the road which is the only real road in and out of the area.

Re: Pele is awake
So if the song "Hello Goodbye" was translated into Hawaiian would the title become "Aloha Aloha" ?
