Post Alcohol/Calcium Chloride Hormone level tests for LH and FSH
Has anyone had hormone tests for Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) after reaching very low testosterone levels with either alcohol and calcium chloride injections or a combination of both?
The medical theory is that if your testes fail the pituitary gland should send out high levels of LH & FSH to command the the boys to get on and produce.
It should be the case in such circumstances that FSH & LH should be elevated.
I am wondering whether anyone knows their readings and whether they are 'normal' or 'elevated'.
In my case they are normal which is indicative of a pituitary problem, unless of course the destruction of the testes in this way does not cause the pituitary to send urgent production calls to the boys.
Hope this makes sense!!

Yes, here were my results (posted previously on the main Calcium Chloride thread)
Okay, got my results today. The results are interesting. They show that I have NOT achieved castration but do have symptoms indicating "primary testicle failure". I'll explain. First here's the results -- these are blood tests done by LabCorp, and I paid for an extra-accurate testosterone test.
Estradiol measured = 18.1 pg/mL, reference range (adult male) = 7.6-42.6, Normal
Testosterone, Total, LC/MS measured = 539 ng/dL, reference range (adult males > 18 yrs) = 348 - 1197, Normal
LH measured = 7.1 mIU/mL, reference range = 1.7-8.6, Normal
FSH measured = 21.2 mIU/mL, reference range = 1.5-12.4, Very High
TSH measured = 1.310 uIU/mL 0.450-4.500, Normal
Thyroxine (T4) measured = 8.2 ug/dL, reference range = 4.5-12.0, Normal
T3 Uptake measured = 35 %, reference range = 24-39, Normal
Free Thyroxine Index measured = 2.9, reference range = 1.2-4.9, Normal
Now, I think my testosterone has been knocked down a bit, as previously I was in the high normal range of about 900 (I'll see if I can find any old test results). However, I'm obviously not castrate at this testosterone level.
However, my FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) level is very high, from 2 to 3 times normal. The guidance on the test results says that this indicates primary testicle failure.
I researched it, and basically it is caused by having the Sertoli cells damaged (by trauma in my case obviously). These cells are almost solely involved in nourishing the sperm cells and are activated by FSH. When activated they are supposed to release a protein called inhibin which then causes the pituitary to reduce FSH production. A high FSH, like in my case, indicates that the Sertoli cells are completely damaged.
The primary effect is sterility -- you can read a lot about high FSH levels on infertility forums.
So basically it looks like the calcium chloride effectively sterilized me, but only knocked down testosterone a bit. I had 1cc of 33% injected into each testicle, although as discussed in the thread above, I think that is about half the dose needed for my originally large testicles.

Re: Post Alcohol/Calcium Chloride Hormone level tests for LH and FSH
Thanks SplitDik.
I have only have the abnormal reading. All my levels are within the normal range except Testosterone @ 46.1 ng/dl.
FSH & LH are within the normal range indicating secondary testicular failure.
Very interested to hear others results.

Re: Post Alcohol/Calcium Chloride Hormone level tests for LH and FSH
this is a copy of one of my previous posts
these are some of the results of my first blood test after I had finished ethanol injections and I had started to get all the effects of very low T
Quote
Update of my blood test with the averages that one should have if you are over 50
FSH 63,2 U/L low 2,0 high 12
LH 44,6 U/L low 2,0 high 9,0
Testosterone 0,53 µg/L low 1,93 high 15,2
Free test 198 ng/L low 616 high 3919
Her reply was that the male hormones are too low and the female are too high.
I don’t think Viagra will help you, you need to go and see a specialist.
Will let you all know the outcome……….but will be much later as I don’t often have access to internet. rgds...

That was four years ago.
and I still do not regret everything I did.

With bilateral orchiectomy surgeries done
The idea that one doctor had was that I had to wait until my LH and FSH levels were high before injecting T. That would cause a massive roller coaster effect. I did not follow that plan.
However even 30 days with no T my FSH and LH levels did not move.
I read that they will raise for a while then "shut off" or give up.
Not sure about that.
My last T result was 381

Re: Post Alcohol/Calcium Chloride Hormone level tests for LH and FSH
I have been diagnosed with a pitutiary micoadenoma, a usually benign growth. I have yet to see the endocrinologist again. But, it may explain my normal. FSH & LH and also some of the hormonal issues that I have had over the years apart from my own anti-androgen and estrogen intake, not to mention alcohol and calcium chloride injections.
Still interested to hear others experience results.

Re: Post Alcohol/Calcium Chloride Hormone level tests for LH and FSH
I was impatiently waiting for my blood test results, to point to my urologist that I have testicular failure base on high LH and FSH levels, but when I saw my results I was shocked!
Testosterone measured = 0.6 NMOL/L, reference range = 6.0 – 27.0
LH Serum measured = 0.6 IU/L, reference range = 1.7-8.6
FSH Serum measured = 0.3 IU/L, reference range = 1.3-19.3
Prolactin measured = 14.9 UG/L, reference range = 2.6 – 13.1
What do you think this indicates?
I was taking estrogen, progesterone and Spiro at the time of the test. Urologist has no clue that I am taking them, sending me to endocrinologist.

P.S. After some research I conclude that I have Secondary hypogonadism. Also I read that high doses of spironolactone (which is true in my case) can lead to Primary (testicular) hypogonadism. …But, how two calcium chloride injections I did fit in this picture?

Re: Post Alcohol/Calcium Chloride Hormone level tests for LH and FSH
I had a fairly thorough battery of blood tests about nine months after my nut pain started, but no LH or FSH, sadly. At the very least, if it's not diagnostic of my problem, I figure I can provide a useful baseline. Alas, having just found the papers, nothing.

Genchick- you prolactin falls in a normal female range. I am very surprised that your LH levels are where they are but maybe your body gave up trying to make testies work. I'm not sure how long it takes before pituitary gives up on that but would be interesting to find out. The progesterone that you take may be forcing the shutdown on LH which is good since LH raises cortisone levels which cause weight gain and other side effects.
