My urologist agreed to castrate me to alleviate testicular pain. I was surprised when he said he would make two incisions - one on each side - instead of just one in the middle of the sac. Is there a big difference? Which did you have?

Mine was done with one horizontal incision at the top of the scrotum. Just large enough to get a ball through and pulled out far enough to clamp off the spermatic cord. All evidence of the spermatic cords are now gone for which I am relieved. The Dr. told me that I had a condition called varicocele which is a varicose vein type condition in the spermatic cord. This was on the left side and resulted in a large 'stump' on the end of that cord after the surgery which left me concerned but it has now completely disappeared. Early on I could easily take the cord ends in my fingers but now there is no evidence of the cords to be found. Good luck!

I have an incision in the center and experience problems with the sutures. I believe the two incisions will probably heal quicker and be less noticeable.

I expected one incision down the center, but my doctor always used one on each side, so I said OK , let's do that. I never noticed any scars and later had my scrotum cut off, so it doesn't matter. I think it is best to wait until every aspect of being castrated is healed before having the scrotum removed and then don't get it too tight or too loose.

Dr. Kimmel did a vertical cut on the left side and then made a horizontal cut to the right. Made a mess with that "L" shaped cut. I had to have a "revision" of the scrotum at a hospital to fix his botched stitching. This also happened to other patients of his.

I had one central incision vertically. The only reason I had a problem was that the urologist used self absorbing sutures, which my body tends to absorb too quickly, so the incision took about 5 weeks to heal completely. When I have my scrotum removed later on, I will ask him to use standard suture material so I won't have any problems

As I discovered on my disastrous attempt with a central incision, my scrotum is incredibly thick at that point and i made a very nasty mess. When I stitched myself up and the scrotum started swelling up with blood I did start to get a little worried.

But my logical mind kicked in and I cut a small piece of silicon tube from my coffee machine and inserted a drain. This made the swelling go down and as i recall i had the drain in for a couple of weeks before the bleeding stopped and miraculously I healed with no infection.

I was in a very bad place mentally at the time, I was also very lucky.

The skin to the left and right is much thinner and therefore a better place to cut.

I guess the difference is between a home grown attempt and a qualified urologist doing the surgery. Other than the slight gaping of the incision due to the sutures dissolving too soon, I have had no other problems with the method of my castration.
